Heard a report yesterday from energy analyst's who are foreseeing the cost of gas to be $2.25 per liter in Canada (thats $8.50 per US gallon) by 2012. That's just 3.5 short years. Besides the curtailment of any pleasure driving a price like that will wreak havoc on our basic economic system and lifestyle (forget about pleasure)considering the distances we have to travel in North america between places for necessary business and life reason's. I am trying to stay positive, looking forward to retirememt and additional travel in 8 or 9 years, but the current situation and the forecast's of the falling skies is beginning to take it's toll on my DW and I. Any suggestions other than sticking my fingers in my ears and saying NAY, NAY, NAY , NAY, NAY, NAY, NAY

I think we need to look into the fact that the majority of the oil we import comes from where? Canada. And, the majority of the oil coming down the Alaska pipeline is sold to whom? Japan. This is something for which I'd like to find a reasonable explanation. Oh yes, be sure to vote in November. I predict that a change, ANY change, after damage repair, will stimulate the economy, and in doing so will hopefully slow the rising fuel prices. JMO

On the plus side, you'll likely be able to save a ton of money on a new motorhome to help pay for the additonal gas costs.

I fear the only "change" I am going to see from the results of the upcoming election is the change in my pockets that use to be paper money. Not only am I worried about pleasure traveling but my 100 mile a day commute for work. No doubt my next commuter bug will be some type of hybrid, unfortunately today's models do not improve upon small 4-cylinder cars that much at highway speeds.

I believe that no matter which party gets elected in November, that energy prices will change for the better. It looks to me that ethanol just raises food prices along with gas prices. The reality is that the government does not control energy prices. It may can effect the price, but not even George Bush, John McCain, Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama can control the price. Just my opinion. Some may know better than I.
I just plan to stay closer to home and will definitely have to re-evaluate our 2012 Alaska trip if gas prices will average 7-8 dollars a gallon.

Glad I live in the SouthWest... just bought a motorcycle to ride to and from work.... 50mpg versus 10 in the pickup I have.
We're going camping this weekend, and next, on the gas I'm saving....

I have a 2001 VW diesel. I get 48-50 mpg. I figured the other day that if I divide my total miles driven on the car and motorhome by the total fuel used, my average mpg is better than almost all gasoline-powered cars. But that doesn't make it any cheaper to fill up the motorhome.

Any improvement is the fuel price situation will be short term at best. We have been living in a world that continually INCREASED our oil supplies ever since they were first discovered and developed and NOW we live in a time when we're in the process of USING UP those supplies without discovering more to replace them. Prices have only one way to go so be prepared.

Unfortunately rising fuel prices are going to be a way of life. Now it is up to each individual RV'er to do a better job of trip planning and take advantage of whatever is out there to reduce cost. Those of us who frequent State and Federal Parks (with out senior discounts) are going to be taking advantage of those opportunities to offset some of the rising cost. Those of us who boon dock will use that method to stay in the RV culture. Those things along with closer to home trips will work for a while but overall I believe the way of life that we have know as Rv'ers does not have a bright future.

The false theory of peak oil is a cruel conspiracy by greedy oil producing countries and their corporate co-conspirators, the oil companies. There are vast fields of oil still being discovered every year (one example is the 33 billion barrel find off the coast of Brazil) throughout the world and North American reserves of both oil and gas are at their highest levels in over a decade. As an owner of oil stocks I am shocked at the profits, share price and dividends being paid, while it hurts the global economy all in the name of greed. While my family will profit if I sell my oil stock's at the right time the pain the oil companies are causing the global economy is disgusting.
This is just like the theory of us humans causing global warming!! Global warming is a natural cycle of the earth throughout the earth's history being repeated over and over again. We should not be fretting about how to stop or control it we need to be seriously figuring out how to adjust and adapt to it.
I find it curious that it was periods of global warming that help to create the oil that the world is fretting over at present. Without global warming we would not be fretting about oil.
