People were getting these for less than $150 at auto parts stores just a few weeks ago. May want to look around for a better price.

The champion is nowhere near as loud as a contractor grade generator.
Would love to see a link for $150 champion generator.

I would be glad to share pictures of my 6" wheel kit and 1" x 2-1/2" rubber dampening footpads design... I am guessing with this wheel kit I will be able to knock about 10db (from 68db to 58db) of noise out of the Champion generator and be almost as good as a red or blue one...
Anyway, I had the wheels laying around and the rubber footpads from another project... I have metal fabricating resources and like to make some stuff myself for something to do...

Which contractor grade generator? Are you saying 68 dB isn't loud? FWIW, my leaf blower, the loudest piece of lawn equipment I own, is 69 dB.
Here are some open frame, contractor grade, 68 dB generators:

So what makes the Champion different? And why is it quieter than my previous two open frame, inexpensive, contractor grade generators? How is the Champion generator not a contractor grade model? Maybe because my old generator had a decal that said it was a contractor model, and the Champion doesn't?

(I added my own wheels)
Maybe because the Champion comes with an RV style plug?

Maybe you have a different definition of "contractor grade".

You cant argue with someone that thinks they know everything. Champion makes a good product and is within the db limit set for campgrounds etc by the necessary government agency's. I do not use mine for camping, but it sure was a life saver when we lost power for three days, kept the house warm, lights worked and the deep well pump kept us in water. For the same output from other manufactures they are right in a similar db range. Of course you cant compare them to a 1000 or 2000 watt size db rating, but for a unit that will do more they fit in perfectly.

I know these types of generators are air cooled, which would definitely pose a problem, but has anybody ever tried using some sort of cover to quiet them down? I dealt with military generators, 60 kW and up, and the Tactical Quiet models were a LOT quieter.

I searched high and low for the $150.00 3500/4000 watt Champion RV generator. I went to the Parts America, and Checkers websites looking for the discount coupon. I even called the local Parts America store. I was told the Champion generator is not available in the Parts America stores but could be purchased on-line for $349.00. In addition to the cost of the generator there is an additional $48.00 for shipping. Just by chance, I ran across the Champion 3500/4000 watt RV generator at Tractor Supply Company for $299.00. I must say, I am quite satisfied with my purchase even though I did not get it for $150.00. As for the noise, I will using the generator while boondocking on private property and won't be disturbing anyone. Moreover, if the noise level bothers me, I will remove my hearing aids.
