Just as a followup FYI to this OP.....As stated by both Dometic reps and VARIOUS Dometic authorized service centers, the warranty on a NEW replacement refrig is null and void if installed by any OTHER person (owner) or persons.....therefore, one way or the other the owner WILL pay...IMHO, of course

That's just not true- as long as it is installed per the installation specs, there is no problem. If it isn't installed to specs, the warranty will not cover it (if the problem is caused by the installation) no matter who installed it- even if the factory did.
Dark Green HD Dmax I saw the same ad almost three months ago and ordered one. After a month still did not receive the unit. After multiple phone calls, I finally had to buy a new reefer elsewhere. I am still trying to get a refund on the cooling unit that was never shipped. JMHO....Don't mess with discount cooling units. Buy a whole new reefer and be done with it.

Hmmm thats not good at all. Sorry to hear that. So much for the discount Cooling unit!

I'm sorry but I personally spoke with Dometic rep, a service center rep in rural Nebraska, a service center rep in S Dakota and the rep from CW in Iowa.....ALL said the same...nothing personal but I feel these were the "insider answers".....if you can substantiate your position with something in writing from mfr I would appreciate seeing that section of their warranty that states you can DIY....IMHO, of course

Refers are usually put into the unit before the walls are up so they don't worry about getting them in. YOU have to worry about getting the old one out and the new one in! Some have to remove a side window and horse it in, others have to take out the windshield. If you're REALLY lucky it'll go through the door!! This may determine the best way to fix it. I don't think ours will, hope I never have to find out!

Quote: This
warranty does not cover conditions unrelated to the material and workmanship of the product. Such unrelated conditions include, but
are not limited to: (a) damage not reported within the first 7 days of ownership; (b) faulty installation or installation that does not comply
with RVIA standards, and any damage resulting from such;
The only way they can deny a warranty claim is if it was installed wrong- no matter who installed it.
I've never, ever asked an owner who installed the refrigerator- unless it was done wrong, and legally Dometic wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they tried to deny a warranty claim based on a proper DIY install.
