Maybe some one may be able to help me. I brought my trailer home and the demo guy just told me to maintain the fifth wheel hitch by greasing the grease fitting. The manual says to grease the top of the hitch if you have no grease plate on the pin. My question is do I grease the top of the hitch? I have the trail air pin box.

use that messy crud if you must.
We bought a lube plate from CW and would never grease the hitch or area around the king pin.

Get yourself a teflon plate that fits around the king pin hitch. It is called a lub plate, but it is just a special cut piece of teflon. It works better than grease with no mess.

Yep, another vote for lube plate. But I put a little grease on the kingpin itself where the hitch locks to it. That is the part that actually pulls and slows the trailer. The top plate just holds up weight of the trailer at the pin box. Both are involved in turning a corner. So far they haven't developed a teflon sleeve for that.
Just for my info, where did someone find Teflon Lube plates? The one I got at CW was just polypropolene. I'll use it till it wears out, but Teflon is slicker.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

Lube plate...I only put a little bit of grease on pivot points on my hitch.

Teflon plate is a lot cleaner. They only cost around $10. They also don't collect dirt and make a mess.
