our daughter and her Army husband have been re-assigned to the lower 48 from Alaska. They plan to move themselves to save money for a down payment on a house. The question they have is:
What is required to take a pet (Cat) across the border into Canada from Alaska and then again back into the states from Canada.
I know that many of you travel with pets and have already crossed this bridge so to speak.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Just current on all shots with certificates to prove it and a statement from a vet that the animal is healty. Everytime I hace crossed into Canada, it has never been a problem. One time only just asked if my dog was current on all shots. Coming back into the States is another issue. I sure wish I could get a passport for my dog, I think it would be much easier then!!!!!!

Check what dog food you have your dog eating.
It's in the regulations that they can take your pet food in some conditions. I'm much happier with mine on food I can buy on either side of the border.
If your dog is on a prescription diet, get a copy of the prescription.

Little Kopit,
Exactly how does this relate to the OP's question concerning a CAT?

Sorry about that, but if you look at the link you will see it is for many pets, birds, 4-legged ones including a skunk!

It is best to have new un-opened bags of kibble that clearly state Made In USA. Also cans of wet food should state Made in USA. I've had cat food taken because it was not made in USA. The inspector told me that all pet food made in USA is admissable. Read the labels carefully. I circle the USA part for a quick find.
I also store some wet food ready for our next border crossing as most wet food in our local stores is made in Canada. It just saves making a trip to the store when you want to get some mileage on your first day across the border. We cross often.

We entered Canada at Sumas on our way to Fairbanks about 3 weeks ago.
We had the shot records for our two cats and letters from our vet saying our cats were both in good health.
We never needed anything.
We were thru the border crossing in 4 minutes. We were never even ask if we had any animals.

For more info, do a forum search about taking animals into Canada. There are tons of threads on the subject.
