All TV's manufactured after 2004 are required to have a built in digital tuner.

Not necessarily. Many camping areas that are not close to the station antennas will no longer get a snowy or double image picture. They will get nothing. This will be a much bigger problem than people are realizing. Go to a site like antenna web and put in the address of your favorite camping area. See how few if any digital stations you will get unless you put up a huge home style antenna or you camp close to the city.

I keep hearing how digital does not carry as far as analog

Let's see 1/8 light second = 186282/8 miles =about= 23285 miles

Of course it's longer since the sat is some miles south of me

(Sat tv is all digital)

Stations are running digital at a fraction of their analog power levels.

Check your owners manual and see if your TV's have a built in ATSC tuner. If they are only 2 years old, you might get lucky and be good to go nothing else needed. Personally I am not going to mess with a converter box. Having HDTV in the stick house, I am spoiled and would not go back to analog TV. I am going to upgrade the RV TV's to HD.

I thought the newer tvs, sold after 2000 had digital tuners? I know the old tube types don't though.

Unless its a high def tv MOST tV's sold until 2007 !!! were analog only If you have a digital astc tuner you would know it, would be obvious in the channel set up and you will see channels like 2.1 4.3 etc. TODAY! digital is being broadcast currently... Do you see those channels ?? if not its a sure bet you don't have a digital tuner.

So..... my TV came with the unit and it's a 2000 model. Is all I need a converter box ? I can still use my roof antena ? We mainly use the RV for college football games. We camp out in the parking lot near the university. Will it still work with a converter and the roof antena ?

Yes same antenna, (does it receive UHF ? chs 14 up ) Same Tv. new converter box (it replaces the channel selector in your tv just tune the tv to Ch 3 or 4 and use the box to change channels.

I believe several of the large box stores just got into hot water for selling TVs without digital tuners and not disclosing that information. Many of the newer RVs including my 2007 came with nondigital TVs - can you spell CHEAP to buy???
