while I was looking at motorhomes i Sweden i noticed that there are, apart from size, obvious differences in how the refrigerators looks in Sweden compared to the US. This lead me to wonder what the major differences are.
When you buy a motorhome what demands do you have concerning the fridge when it comes to size, interior, extra functions like ice maker and so on?
Is there a difference if you use your RV for shorter or longer periods? Also i wonder if there is a difference in needs depending on which age the user are. I am around 30 and i do not have same demands as my parents.
European appliances have always been more stylish than the US manufactures. As far as choices, when you buy a Motorhome from inventory on a dealers lot, you pretty much have to take the unit that's in the coach. If you custom order a coach, then you can choose the refer of your choice. I don't think we choose refers based upon the lenght of a trip or on age of the users. Of course if you find a MH you like and want another refer design, you can always negotiate a change assuming it fits the cut out in the MH.
I'll go along with JFG, but with a few comments. The size of the unit is mostly dictated by the size of the RV. The smaller units tend to have small Refers. Kind of hard to put a two door side by side in 16' TT and still have a stand alone shower. The manufactures tend to size the Refers to the number of people the RV can sleep, then there is the overall size of the unit factor. Like a 34" Class "A" can sleep 4 but you will find a walk in refrigerator LOL, a little over stated but the more luxury in a coach the general rule is the larger and more features in the refer.
My biggest requirement being that it keeps the beer cold and be able to hold at least two six packs at a time. The milk and eggs are the wife's problem.
My utopia would be a refrigerator that does not have to be level to run efficiently. Then a door ice maker and water dispenser that can be hooked to store-purchased plastic water jugs.
Utopia aside, good quality and a fit into the existing slot
The Europeans have smaller refrigerators because they go to the neighborhood store and purchase fresh produce more often, have smaller families and consume less than us. But, these small refrigerators are disappearing in Europe in favor of the American size double door appliances.

If you look at trends for home appliances a new trend seems to be drawer fridges. These are very visionary and also more energy efficient since you don't loose as much cold as in a door model when opening the fridge.
In European motorhomes the size could maybe be a problem for this type of fridge but is it the same for American motorhomes?
