Help! I have a perfectly good laptop. It runs in XP Pro. I've lost the password. Anyone know how to access this thing and reset the password? I'd hate to have to buy a new harddrive and the programs too.

Do a start-up in safe-mode. Then you can reset password.

No if you sign on as administrator. Then you can remove old password or give new one.

You'd never have to buy a harddrive, worse case reformat and reinstall.

Well... without a password, I cannot access the machine. Yes, I'm the administrator. Therefore; I cannot change anything in Safe Mode, nor can I access the drive to reformat and reinstall. I'm going to try the link to the password service mentioned by 8.1 van.

Login Recovery works nicely...I've used it several times.

Remember, you need to burn the program as a disk image to a CD, and you BIOS settings must be set to boot from CD.
