Hi,
We are ready to buy a new 5er, down to the exact one and we know how we want it optioned. I know NOT to tell them we have a trade until we get a price, also ask the loan rate even though we are paying cash, talk to sales manager only, bring a price in from Lakeshore and see if they can get close, I see discounts anywhere from 25% to 35% off retail so I would be happy at 30% off, shop from dealer to dealer as the one we are looking at there is no MSRP and they let the dealers make up thier own retail. We also found a good dealer in our area and a not so good dealer so we have done our homework. What else might I be missing in bargining with them ???
Thanks

When you get their price and you are not in a hurry, give them a ridiculous offer. When they say sorry you say well, I am prepared to pay cash does that help? If not say see ya. I am sure they will either catch you in the parking lot or let them call you in a day or 2. If you don't hear back, call them or go see them and say how far apart are we and go from there.

Lou,
Great idea,we are in no hurry, might wait to see how fuel prices top out. I hate to put what brand we want to buy as the dealers read this too.

I hope you don't expect them to knock off 30% then expect retail for your trade-in. It really don't work that way. You would be better off selling your camper and buying theirs. This would take some of the shock that you are about to receive. As far as cash sales, most dealers make more profit by financing and will sometimes give you better deal. They have caught on to all the tricks and are strictly in it for profit. That is how they stay in business.

If you've got your target 5er nailed down to the options, sell your old one and send an e-mail to dealers selling your target brand within approximately 500 miles including model and desired options and see what happens. Don't bite on the first offer. Let them finance it if there's something in it for you (money off the price) and make sure there's no pre-payment penalty. Pay it off asap, if possible. This worked for us as dealing with our local dealer turned out to be unpleasant. There are deals out there to be found. Good Luck!

If you are not in any hurry, wait until about August when the season is ending. Right now is their busy time so they won't be as hungry. September or October may be even better. The big thing is can you wait?

Why would you try to hold back on telling them about the a trade? It is what it is only worth whole sale to a dealer all you do is slow down the process. Tell them what you want right up front and see if you get it. If they discount the new one you will get wholesale for the trade, or they can inflate the value of your trade and keep the selling price higher. It works out to the same figure just different ways to show you the bottom line. Also like posted earlier they were rather have you finance it. Good luck remember a good deal is when you are both happy.

In Washington, you only pay sales tax on the difference between trade in and purchase prices on vehicles. I'm not sure if it is the same on RV's since it was our first and there was no trade, but you should check that out where you live. Could make a difference on selling your current vehicle and then paying full tax on the new purchase?

Get a comprehensive list of options, so you have a good fix on true values.Ifound a lot of the discount rv dealer ships were not so cheap when you factor in all the upgrades.I bought locally after checking option to option.my dealer beat rv discounters hands down.

If you get 30% off you probably aren't going to do much better unless you wait so the 2008 sells as a year old--but then it may gone. Ditto comments about trade-in. They will look it up in the book and give you wholesale. End of discussion. The only way you will get more for your trade from a dealer is if they jack up the price of the new rig.

I think you have it nailed down. I'd go for it so you can enjoy it now.
