I am the proud new owner of a 2008 Jayco 12HW. Just towed her home this past Saturday and started stocking her up for her maiden voyage in a couple weeks. However, while I was bringing her home, I noticed that the awning that came with the popup tends to flop around quite a bit while traveling, and I was wondering if there is anything you guys do to secure it a little better, or if that is just the way it is? I was just a little worried that the bag would actually start to tear right off.

Do you have all the poles stored in the bag? It shouldn't flop around with the poles in it.

Mine doesn't flop too badly, it does bouce around some. I thought it had gone missing once. A trim filler strip came out and was flopping in the breeze like the final remains of the awning, but a better look confirmed that the bag was still there.

Well, that's probably it... sorry, rookie mistake I guess. I wasn't sure if it was designed to travel with the poles in the bag or not, so I had them inside the popup... I'll put them in the bag and try again, (embarassed) Thanks.

Don't be too embarrassed, because that probably won't solve the problem. We traveled all over with ours before replacing it, and it would flop around regularly, even going up on the roof (and staying put!). I actually felt more comfortable with it up on the roof because then it wasn't flopping. I never did solve the issue before replacing it.

We had a similar experience as rmnp with our PUP awning. Originally it came with velcro strips to hold it more tightly in place, but within a few seasons of use the strips had pretty much gone the way of the world (i.e. succumbed to mortality) so we just did without. On windy days, if the wind was coming from our curbside, the awning bag would usually come to rest on the roof and just stay there all day, which was ok. We never carried our poles inside the bag, as our particular one wasn't designed to do so. I think some brands are - probably the ones that have at least some of the poles permanently fastened to the awning itself.

Are Jayco PUP did the same thing. The poles would not fit in the bag. I did solve to problem by getting some good velcro and put (4) 6" strips on it and that took care of the problem for 2 years, the trailer was sold this year and it still looked fine. I would think it would last 3-4 years.
Enjoy the new rig, I do like the new HW PUP's

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to fit the poles in the bag and also the velcro and let you know how it works. I heard those type of awnings can be a bit of a pain anyway, so I'm considering an upgrade down the road if that is the case. We basically spent the weekend in campDriveway to get everything loaded up for her first voyage in a week or so to see how well stocked we think it is before we head out on some serious trips this summer.

Thanks Jay - we are pretty excited about it. I basically just wanted to get off the ground but once the lovely wife got involved, we ended up going almost all the way with this thing. I'm pretty impressed with how many accessories they can get into something that I can still store in the garage, and with my 6'8" height, the HW will definately make things easier on the higher counters.
Thanks for your responses and welcoming me aboard... This website is really great and I've learned a ton from reading your posts over the last few months while we were in the market!

I used bungee cords from the roof rack towers to the roof hold down clamps. Held the awning tight against the roof until I took the awning off for good and stored it in the garage. Just too much of a hastle for one person to put up.
