Wrong answer. You can do all the above - including going "ooooooh" - simply by disabling the electronic mechanism at the control box. Of course, if you do, you also put it at risk during any severe wind that may occur. Just reread my answer and agree you can't tilt to one side. However, the only reason you would want to do that is to allow the awning to drain rain water. On my WeatherPro, one end mechanically dips four inches when enough water accumulates and rises when it has drained.

I don't know anything about hanging lights or tilting or disabling at control boxes. All I know is that I like anything that makes setup and breakdown as quick and easy as possible, and for us that's a power awning.

The ease it provides is well worth any downsides for us.

Dennis, your answer is awning specific, not applicable to all awnings. Our electric Carefree Eclipse is fully adjustable, either leg, just like any manual awning, has a on/off SW for the auto retract so you can stake it down and hang lights on it, but to raise or lower all you do is push a button and say oooooooooh.

Our new TT (see sig) came with it; we wouldn't have ordered it. The "ooooooh" factor is definitely there. The way we see it, there are advantages either way.

With a manual awning, you can adjust the tilt, use tiedowns (not both of those at once, though), and fairly easily put up tack - er, awning lights . On the other hand, if a big windy rainstorm comes up, you have to out in the rain & get soaked during the 5 minutes or so it takes you to roll up the awning. Ditto if you're getting ready to leave camp & it's raining. And you have to spend that time rolling it up and setting it back up when you leave/arrive back at camp.

With a power awning, you can't adjust the tilt (unless you have a certain brand/model) or use tiedowns, and you need a ladder to install those lights. But if you are leaving camp for the day, breaking camp, a big windy thunderstorm suddenly blows up, you forgot to stow the awning for the night - you can stay inside and just push a button. Pretty cool. I think we're gonna like this.

Sig 5er came with the automatic awning. We have not only had lights on it but have also,(at the same time), had our sun screen hooked to it also. I DID need a ladder to put the lights and screen on, but I do like the awning.

As several poster have indicated, the Carefree Eclipse can be adjusted for tilt but whats more, it can be left with one end lower than the other and it still opens and closes normally w/o needing to change the tilt. One other advantage is that the arms are above head height, so no bumped heads. The big drawback with power awnings is that they are more difficult to clean. With a manual awning, you can extend it, drop the arms under the trailer and then clean the top of the awning.

Can the automatic closer be disabled? I don't like the idea of having lights hanging and the awning start rolling up on me. I think from what I have read the pitch of the awning for my camper will be steep enough for rain to run off and not cause sagging.

Ours has an on/off switch by the entry door to disable the retract feature.

I am looking at ordering a power awning with my new 5er. Are they AC/DC or just AC?
