It looks like Directv will be coming out with a new dish called the SlimLine 3.
It will be for the 101 satellite and the HD satellites at 99 and 103. It will not see the 110 and 119 satellites.
In the link below, there are a couple of comments about how this will be ideal for RVers. It should be easy to set up.

Before trying any of Direct TVs new equipment, make sure it is not set for a spot beam. Direct is changing a lot of their stuff over to the ku band from ka and it is not RV friendly. Also remember that if you travel SOB, Direct TV is useless, as their footprint stops just south of the border.

I know a bunch of you have seen this in the settings of the new CE's...

Sorry it has taken me this long to post, it has b een a LONG weekend... (and I am working off-site today/tomorrow, so I won't be around much till evenings).

Anyway.... The SlimLine 3

It is one of the next dishes from DirecTV...

It is similar to it's siblings, the Slimline and the SWMLine (my name for it)... but, it is smaller and will only see three SAT orbits...

99, 101, 103
It wil NOT see the 110 and 119.

If anyone wasn't sure that all HD is moving off the 110,119.. this should be the final nail in that discussion.

The new dish is not available yet (as far as I know it is not even in trials).

The dish will be used in markets that will not have it's locals on 110 and 119 (remember the locals from 72 are moving to one of those)

The ultimate goal is to get ALL installations to a single dish... And with 99,101,103... the "view area" of the single dish is much smaller, and should be able to work.

I don't know at this time if internationals are going to be moved or not.

I also don't know if there is going to be a SWMLine3 dish (wouldn't surprise me, but I didn't ask)

And no, I don't have a picture of it... yet.

Sorry. Forgot about that. And thanks, 69RoadRunner. That's what I should have done.

I guess nothing is forever.
I have been with them for nearly 15 years and had to changes dishes twice.
I did change to an HD dish at one time also by choice of course but decided the HD service was not going to be worth it going full time so we went back to the standard service as we are going full time soon.
I did not want to have to find multiple birds if I don't have to and that HD dish is really big too.
So if we can we will stay the the standard dish unless we are forced to adapt later.

Soon to be full timing

Question is whether or not us using our roof domes will be able to use existing equipment that will switch between the three birds the way my dome currently switches between the 101 and 119? Anyone know the answer to that?

Gee, I'm glad I spent the money to order the in-motion dome on my Ventana that will be useless pretty soon.
