Pot stirrer here. Has anyone actually been in an accident w/ their MH, FLAT towing a vehicle, and can FACTUALLY attribute that accident to the fact that they did, or did not have a toad braking system? BTW, U-Haul rents tow dollys w/o brakes on them. As I stated before, I tow dollied an Accord from NH to tamps FL w/o any noticable differance in braking capabilities. Now I want to hear the s@*t fly !!

I tow dollied a Plymouth 8 pass mini van around the perimeter of the US behind a 29' class C with no aux brakes in 1992. Does that make it legal? Does it mean I was safe? Was I within the manufacturers posted tow limits, NO. Did I have an accident, NO. Would I do the same thing today, NO. So what is your point.

I believe the U-Haul dollies have surge brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Accomplished and accomplished safely/legally can be two very different things.

Because you can does not mean you should. We have friends who towed their TT without brakes for two summers. Had no problems. Does that make it ok.

Here we go again, same subject, different post, looking for an answer that agrees with you. If you don't want to use Toad brakes, then just don't do it. I could care less. I guess some people just need justification. Now start another post.

Hi

We had a member of our club loose his H2 Hummer last summer outside of Myrtle Beach. No suplimental Brakes.... His reciever broke at the frame and the Hummer went across the medium, struck a car head on and killed a guy.
Need I tell you what a legal mess his family is dealing with still today and for a long time to come...

Debate all you want! But, you may not value lives of others if you do.

Think about it. The only time I feel my toad is when I take of from a dead stop or panic stop.. I would not go out with out the brake. If you do you better not have to a panic stop. They are expensive but ceaper than a new frontend. Good Luck. KEEP IT ON CHANNEL 13.. NICK HAS A BETTER REASON THAN ME.

You wanted to hear the S--T fly? Ok I'll toss some up in the air...
You tow without brakes and end up hurting someone, something, or killing someone, something, John Q Law is NOT going to let you forget about it. They will take your house, your motorhome, your wife, your dog, your corvette, your first born, and anything you ever worked for in your life.

Can you tow without brakes? Let me see... Can you take a******without wiping? Sure you can, but both ways, it will get messy.

See my point?

Now, like othertonka said... NOW START ANOTHER POST!!

You actuall have a ligit question....all be it not to popular...."IS SUPLIMENTAL BRAKING NEEDED?" the difference is that most have started talking about a "BRAKE AWAY SYSTEM" that is included in most suplimental braking devices...If the toad breaks away from the towing vehical it has some means of stoping on its own before it does more damage...This break away system can also cause the car behind you to plow into your toad and do major harm also.. 6 to one half dozen to another...Now would I like to have suplimental breaking on my toad?? Yes more brakes does mean a shorter stoping distance...this is good. Do I have to have it...in my state it depends on the weight of the toad. Have I been saved by suplimental brakes? No...Have I been in a colision because I did not have them? No
P.S.
I have checked over my tow setup..short of the frame of the MH or toad ripping off (not too likley) no less than 3 seperate things would have to fail to separate my toad from my MH... I don't plan on jumping off any cliff to see if I survive but if the Good Lord wants to screw me over I think he will find an easer way than to rip my toad away from my MH.
