this has been the case for as long as I can remember...
I think this is true when any group gets together with common interest, but even more so in camping... in camping there are usually multiple common interest... the love of family, the love of the outdoors and the love of travel...
I think there has been a bond in camping that requires a degree of trust not present in most other things we do...
most of us leave things out in CG's (mats, chairs, grills, and a host of other things) without worrying about them... no body wants to break camp every day to retire for the evening or to run to the store... most of us are aware our storage key fits just about everyone else and theirs fits ours... I, to some degree rely on the honesty of the neighbor even though I only met him a day ago... I, watch the property of others and I know they watch mine... tenters have little locked up while gone hiking all day...
it is this trust that makes us feel more comfortable even in this high density situation...
it is a sad fact of life though that we are a microcosm of society at large and as society changes so do our fellow RV'ers... I see a lot of good in the world but also see troubles that continue to shock me... I think there has been a faster degree of moral decay and the reasons for that don't belong in the forums... so far camping has escaped much of this and I hope that continues...
as a group we show more respect and more tolerance toward each other, and it is up to us to keep it going... a simple wave or a smile can do more than we realize making the CG a comfortable place for other guest...
we each need to do out part to make the experience better for the other guy... in doing so me make it very much nicer for ourselves...

I think RVing is all about having fun...if someone is stuck or having a tough time, why wouldnt we help out? Its not our duty....its our pleasure.

Quite often when we pull up to our camp site there is at least one or sometime 3 or 4 that come over to help back in. I have helped others back in more than once. Much easier to have a stranger help than DW. "What goes around, comes around"

Yes, I agree. I would much rather dwell on the positive than the negative. We have met alot of nice people while camping and also have gained some new friends!

On our very first time out with our First Camper ever, I backed into the site fairly easy
However, setting up our new camper the first time required some technical adjustments. The gentleman across the way saw us having some trouble. He offered a tool that was needed to fix our mechanical problem.
We thanked him immediately and then he said as he was leaving, "by the way, nice job backing in with your new camper."
Nice touch. That made me feel good -- and I realized there would always be someone willing to offer help or ideas.

A couple of weeks ago 2 other families and ourselves were doing a quick weekend outing. On Sunday we were packing up when my buddy noticed an elderly gentleman with a pop-up trying to spin it by hand. It had rained the night before, the camper was stuck in the mud, and the fella didn't look good. My two buddies and I went over and offered to help him. He thanked us profusely. We had him out in a jiffy. He said he didn't know what he would have done if we hadn't come over. I am not posting this for a pat on the back. I would venture to say that everyone on this site would have done the exact same thing if they were in our position. I just wanted to remind everyone that the next time you're at a CG and need a hand, there are many more folks like us on RV.NET on the sites next to you than those idiots described in some of the posts. Don't hesitate to ask!!!
You made us proud. The world needs more people that are ready to lend a hand.
