i have a small old fashion style slideing bolt type lock mounted on the screen door, the mount it goes into is not needed the aluminum edgeing on the door frame catches the bolt, no one can open it from the out side quickly if they dont know where it is to unlatch it.we have plexiglass on the inside bottom of the door you can see out keeps in the cool in summer and cold out in winter,

Bill: The next thing that's going to happen once you get the door latched shut is the screen is going to get pushed out. Here's what I did to save our door screens. Couple of pieces of aluminum and a florescent light diffuser from Lowes,Menards,or Home Depot cut to fit.

Haven't replaced a screen yet.

That is very clever.

Does your assist handle swing toward the door?

Our stair assist grab handle lifts and swings out of it's against the trailer position into the parallel to the steps position. We are also able to lift and pull it in FRONT of the door. We reach through the screen slider deal, lift and swing it so it blocks the screen door. The screen door pushes open only an inch or two.

The problem is remembering to do it every time. And we still forget.

On our last trailer, DH installed slide locks like you see in public restrooms. You could reach in from the outside, slide it locked or unlocked. A bracket was mounted to the frame and another on the screen door itself. High enough out of her reach, but still allowing us to lock/unlock from outside.

Another very good idea. We have the same grab handle set up. I move it to the forward position when we travel so I don't have to lock the door.

Thanks for the idea.

To protect the screen we purchased a screen door grille from Camping World. It's decorative and will keep kids or dogs from going through the screen. It also "stiffens" up the door. The doorpart of the screen door latch on my Titanium is just like all the other ones I've seen. but, the door frame part of the latch is a plastic piece that is a plastic piece with an open square opening that the latch goes into. The other ones I've had are just a flat piece of plastic with a couple of raised ridges on it. My new one is much more secure. However, I don't know if it would hold up to a child running and pushing on the door.

Oh my goodness, I wish I had thought of this before! We occasionaly used a bungee but our 2 year old fell out a couple of years ago. With our third kid on the way we'll be safer with this idea. Thanks

Don't remember what they are called, but it is a simple window/door lock shaped like an inverted "L". Put our last one just behind the center of the door. It can't be seen from the outside, but we can reach in the "fly hole", to latch it or unlatch it. We like to have the door open at night when it is hot out and feel secure with this lock. To keep the fly hole closed, drill a 1/8 hole at the edge where the hump starts and then one in the center of the door handle part of the screen door. Then hook a small bungee in the holes which keeps it closed--may have to tie a knot in the bungee if it isn't tight enough. Also use the assist handle trick.

Super idea. I was going to do what I did in the house. I fitted a pane of plexiglass to the lower half of the screen door as a kick panel. But I like this solution better. Still lets some air thru. And it's....ooh Shiney !!!
