I really think there may be benefits to the high price of fuel. Maybe summer will find plenty of places to visit without worrying about needing reservations. It would really be nice if the price of overnight sites would stop increasing at a horrendous rate. Maybe just maybe there is some good to the high price of fuel.
I just made the trip from DEN to DAL via the back highways. There were more RV's on that 870ish mile ride than I've seen on the back highways in a long time. They were also moving slower than in previous years. I was running at 50mph and most of the other RV's that passed me were going around 55-60mph. Truckers were going slower too. Maybe people are slowing down and avoiding the main interstates to conserve fuel.
Overnight site pricing? Unless there's a need for dump facilities, recharging batteries or something else, why not boondock in a town park or at truck stops while enroute to somewhere else? The overnight rate is $zero which is hard to beat.

We still are having to make reservations for weekends at the Georgia State Parks that are close to us. I believe that folks are still going, but not going as far.

Native Texan? Only Native Texans I know are either Mexican or Indian.
Here in West Central Florida the RV parks are almost empty. No reservations needed and you have your pick of sites. Go figure. I start my full-timing this Thursday and plan to head north towards Indiana and Kentucky to visit friends and family. So Far, the 2 RV parks in the area where I plan to stay still have mucho open spots and are on a first come first served basis. Want to get better chances of getting into an RV park, then make sure you are in the area where you plan to stay for a while by Wednesday. The parks do not make money by keeping open sites for reservations 3-4 days down the road
