My brother just built a new home and installed on of the "instant" LP water heaters without any storage and likes it very well and it is a "green home" appliance. Lower weight alternative and energy saving.

Yes, but the propane one downstream would be full of cold water, not hot water, and you would need to run all the water out of it before getting any hot water to the fixtures.
If he put the electric water heater in before the gas one as tom_kat stated, then he would have them in series, with the electric water heater pre-heating the water going into the propane water heater, thereby allowing the propane water heater to run for shorter times (recovery would be from warm-to-hot water, not from cold water).

One thing to 'think' about!! "home" water heaters are glass lined and will crack and rust through with all the bouncing going down the road!!!

I have two 6 gallon heaters. For less than one new 6 gallon RV heater, I can have a 20 gallon heater. BTW, I need the extra hot water for the Jacuzzi.
My real question is the logistics of installing a 20 gallon heater. The electricity should not be a problem because the closet is next to the restroom which has 110 service. It appears that I can tap the hot water line running to the restroom. Has anyone done anything similar or any suggestions.
