It would be much better if you just practice bear safety in your camping habits and keep things clean and put things away. Shooting a bear with a hand gun is a very dangerous idea, legal or not.
Gotta disagree - my gun dealer killed a brown bear with his .44 in defense. Also, a man in Anchorage killed a black bear with a 9mm that was in his house.
In answer to the OP -> NRA website.
Yeah and women in AK killed one with a 22. Everyone gets lucky now and again.

I carry a 12g double barrel shotgun when traveling, unloaded on the move then maybe load & placed up hidden high out of kids reach if in a less than secure situation. Ammo & gun seperate. That solves any issue of a handgun in differing areas in the U.S. and any area I would visit, a rifle or shotgun is legal. Shotgun is way more effective too.
I gave up on concealed handgun figuring if perps "got the drop" on me I would be shot or stabbed before I could get it out - I'm no gunslinger. Open carry causes too much controvery.
I always keep aware of my surroundings and if I sense increasing danger then I will make the gun more available as needed.

That's funny right there. Believe me, if a criminal wants you or what you have, that little doggie won't stop him/her. I've disarmed a number of dogs much meaner looking than that one. I have sprayed wasp stopper on two "attacking" pit bulls and they ran off foaming at the mouth. That was very easy. I've, on the other hand, been attacked by two of the same type animals when I didn't have any spray. I'm just glad they didn't want me too bad. Simply trying to say...don't count on your little puppy to protect against a thug or a group of thugs. You will loose your doggie and possibly your own life and I would also say that you don't care much about your dog if you would use it for protection against them.
Well if you want to try your chances with him maybe we can set something up. I wouldn't use him to go against a thug or a group of thugs. He and the other two are a great warning alarm and 99% of intruders will pass an abode that has barking dogs in it.
I've never come across thugs in my 50 years anyways so I don't really worry about it enough to carry a gun. I don't really worry about things that are not likely to happen to me. I'm more likely to die in an automoblie accident on the highways than I am from a robber in my house.
Chances are if you're going to come up against someone with criminal intent your gun won't do you much good if he has one too and he has an even bigger advantage in the element of surprise, unless you carry your gun around everywhere you go fully loaded and ready to pull at a seconds notice and I don't know anyone who does that.

My response is that to prosecute me I have to be alive so I carry with discretion & try not to use but will if truly needed.

I only know of one camper killed in WV he knew the killers and drugs were involved.camping is a safe hobby you do not need a gun for protection. if you do camp in a different camp ground. a 16 year old turkey hunter was killed near here last week.I stopped hunting to many nuts out their.

I guess it would be safer for the rest of us to just avoid being around you. You seem to attract dangerous people and animals.
Which do you think you are more likely to be killed or injured by
a. Armed criminal
b. Bear
c. Drunk driver
I'll put my bet on c.
for intruders we have this

I've got A and B covered, thanks...and BTW, the first two occurrences were in KC, MO---the other 3 experiences were in an I-70 rest area just west of Topeka, and another just outside Port Arthur, TX while we were helping clean up after Katrina/Rita....a whole lot closer to your place than mine, Glenn!

I'm offended by your comment. You folks up north gave up your rights to be armed. That's fine. We see this 2nd Amendment issue as important to us. Many have fought and died for these rights. Perhaps staying home would do you well if you can't feel safe here with us.
