Canadians did not give up their right to own firearms they, like most of the industrialized countries of the world, realized how dangerous and unnecessary handguns are. Let me qualify this by saying I retired after 20 years in law enforcement and, during the last 12 of those years was director of a police acadamy where I over saw the firearms training of something around 2000 police recruits. I own a number of firearms, many of which are handguns. Canadians don't need handguns because very few Canadians have handguns. I would consider giving up hand guns were it not for the fact that so many other people in this country have them and will not give them up. I don't say this lightly, I have been a pistol shooter for more than 50 years. Still, the numbers make clear how much of a problem firearms in general and handguns in particular are in this country. The Canadians and other industrialized countries have a very civilized approach to gun ownership and their citizens are safer as a result. What a concept.

Thats unAmerican ! 1st let em have the pistols, then it will be rifles, then the shotguns.
God Guns & Guts. Thats what this country was founded on and the sad thing is most only still believe in guns. The other 2 are sadly lacking.
They can make all the gun laws they want. Im keeping mine.

Remember that it was the gun that helped make this country free. They weren't throwing sticks at each other in WWI and WWII, Korea, Pearl Harbor, Vietnam, Iraq, and you can finish the list. Let's pull all the troops into a huddle and tell them to be sweet to the ones that are blasting them off the face of the earth. Let's tell them that they don't need guns. While we're at it, let's tell law enforcement that they no longer need their guns. No one is going to be ugly. Those thugs and drug heads that we think want to take our lives for a five dollar bill are really just a figment of our imagination and something that the media has just made up to sale the news segments.

I have a CCL and always have it on me..... though you would never know. It has saved my butt twice (without having to fire a shot). Even if they outlaw them I would never give it up. Perps are almost never alone and I'm no Chuck Norris, so when more than one come after you .......well.

It would really be nice to have all of the anti-gun people to be required to wear some type of visible notice that they are one that is against guns so that when they are being attacked and begging for someone to help them, we would know who to pass by and possibly ask them how they feel about a weapon that could have saved them the discomfort they might be facing at that moment.
Like when someone says something really mean or nasty to you one day, then they next day, you see them stranded on the highway and you honk your horn and drive by. You wonder if they have any remorse about what they said to you earlier or if they really don't understand why you didn't stop and help them out.
All of you anti-gun folks be grateful that their are many that don't feel that way. They will protect your rights even though you really don't want any rights. They are the United States "Armed" Forces. They will fight for you with their guns even though you only want to be a puppet on a string under the government....what ever country you are in. We are fighting for those in Iraq have been puppets for many years. It's ashamed that many in our own country want the same thing.
The subject of the bear has been brought up several times earlier in the thread. What if you declawed all of the bear, since they are such a viscious breed? They wouldn't hurt you, but then they wouldn't be able to protect themselves when they are their young were attacked. Same with humans. Think about it. You take away our means of defense, we are at the mercy of anyone that wants to attack us.

Just remember it is the 2nd amendment that has protected all the other rights we have and will be the one that protects all our rights in the future, individually and has a country.

^^^ Not unless I'm sitting on top of my camper with my gun and watching for other campers to walk down the street. You could call me hunting then. If you don't see my gun, I'm just protecting if threatened.

C`mon, seriously. At the risk you are just baiting me (us), have you READ The Constitution? There is no intent referring to hunting.

The Second Amendment is not about hunting!
The Second Amendment is not about hunting!!
The Second Amendment is not about hunting!!!
The Second Amendment is not about hunting!!!!

This tripe is put out there so often, especially during an election year, it makes me gag. It`s about tyranny. We not only have a right to free ourselves from oppression, we have an obligation to the state to do so. We ARE the militia. We don`t have to join "a militia" or form "a militia". We ARE the militia! If you have trouble comprehending 2A, spend a little time reading the Federalist papers. You can click it up on line in many places these days. That should clear it up for you (as if you want it cleared up, right?). Again, there is no utopia, get over it.
Incidentially, I can now legally carry while spotting deer at night and while bow hunting, under the same law that lets me carry anywhere else. And my pistol has never once jumped out of the holster and shot an innocent deer illegaly of it`s own accord. Shocking, isn`t it?
