After 20 years DW and I are now down to just one place as of the end of the day. Our plan during all those years was to use our cabin for the summer, and then snowbird in the MH during the winter.

How in the world you can combine two places into one is short of a minor miracle. We've been downsizing over the last five years, and we still have "stuff." Worst part is all this current "stuff" has meaning to us. The other "stuff" went to craigslist, the kids, or goodwill.

I really don't know how everybody does it. It must really be hard to become a FT'er. Hopefully leaving next winter behind will make it all worth it.

Actually, we found the process extremely easy (mentally), exciting and liberating.

I think I would too have a difficult time "getting rid of" some stuff, many momentos that I have from my Mom & Dad that I could never get rid of.
I guess I don't classify them as stuff so I understand why your having a difficult time.

You will love snowbirding. We love it so much that we are in the process of getting rid of all of our stuff to go fulltime. Remember it is just "stuff". Memories are more important than things. Make the memories while you can.

John&Joey, I agree with you about getting rid of things. Been talking to DW about going FT, but it's hard to decide what to keep, give away, sell. We have decided to go through each room and tag things for the kids, sell, donate or store. From the discussions, I have a hunch a lot of "STUFF" is going to storage. We are going to sell the sb and hit the road for a year to see how we like it. Although the sb is paid for if we keep it good ole Utah will still be feeding on my pocket book, utilities and property taxes. We'll see what happens. Our real estate market hasn't been hit as hard as other areas.

I can definitely understand the desire to "shed" millstones but after snowbirding for a number of years now, we have concluded we will very likely keep our home as long as we are physically able to "enjoy" it. The gardening and shop for tinkering, yes and the additional rooms and spaces are just too comfortable to sacrifice at this time. We dearly love to come around the last corner after being away for 5 or 6 months and seeing the homestead once again.

It is hard to get shed of everything. We still have 2 homes and lots of stuff so I cant say much but I will add;

When you are on your way out of this world what is the benefit of keeping it?

Its time to get the most out of life while you still have a desire to travel.

Plus, the kids dont want to deal with all this stuff either, so maybe thats a reason we should just take care of it now.

I guess a therapist may suggest something better than a bunch of happy traveling old seniors?

That is what they make storage sheds for and at 25 to 35 a month your not out a whole lot to store those things you really cannot part with.

Hi all :-)
We are new to the RV.net forums. We are in the midst of getting rid of "stuff". Hubby retires in less then 2 years and we are still contemplating on what that means for us, in traveling and keeping a home. We definitely, will at the least, need to downsize, in a more affordable area, as we live near Telluride Colorado, where homes, taxes and living expenses are ridiculously, costly.
It certainly is as big of a decision as you want to make it ;-)

Store the real meaningful things at one of the kids homes...if you ever need it back its there...if not.... they can keep it as a gift..
