Thanks for the replys. Two main points I get...if it isn't going to bother others it's ok and chain it up!

Close but no cigar.

The main points are Chain it up and if it isn't going to bother others it is OK.

Security first then use.

Wall mart, No, I would not annoy people by running a generator all night

Flying J (And other truck stops) depends.. If parked among trucks then the noise likely won't bother people, Exhaust fumes, however, MIGHT. So add a Gen-Turi to your generator (if it's a built in) to get the exhaust up up and away from both your rig and the person parked next to you.

Two things I find very annoying

1: 2 hours w/o the Gen-turi and my generator sets off my CO alarm (I've hit 25 hours run with the Gen-turi and nary a beep)

2: Next door neighbor's generator setting off my CO alarm because HE did not have a Gen-Turi

Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

We've never been parked close enough to another RV in a WalMart lot that the sound or fumes from our genny should be a problem for anyone else. Besides that, the machine that sweeps their parking lot usually makes its rounds about 3 a.m., so anyone TOO concerned about noise probably shouldn't be there in the first place. Same is true on the noise issue at Flying J--not quiet enough for one more genny to be noticable, but can be a little harder to avoid having the fumes disturb a neighbor.

Truck Stops and Wal-Mart is the only time I use my gen all night. By the time it is hot enough for me to run it, I am never the only one.

Impossible to "camp" in a parking lot. Look up "camping" in a dictionary.

You all remember the story last year or so where someones exhaust fumes killed the folks next door? Don't run it next to me or we will have a problem. I'll run mine in the morning for coffee but I park out of the way and the exhaust is facing the lawn, field or highway.

Recently we stopped at a Flying J. It was really cold, so we turned on our generator so we could cook dinner and start up a space heater. The people next door to us in a TT without a generator very pointedly told us to turn off our generator -- so we did, and then we froze all night!

The victim in that case was sleeping in a tent.

Why did you turn off your generator?
