NOT all the same.if you do not get one with pass thru you will have to do a go around with a-b switch. There will be some local stations not broadcasting in digital. Only problem is none with pass thru are available at this time.

If I buy the converter box at Wal-Mart then what else do I need for cable reception? I can buy a portable dish...do I need to subscribe to Dish Network or other plan?? Not able to get reception on cable most places.
Thx

I was going to post the question separate, but found this topic. So this is a slight hijacking.
Has anyone used the TV converter box in their RV yet? I am specifically interested in the use of the converter box with the batwing antenna. I have one antenna and two TV's. I will assume I will need to wire the converter box before it splits to the back TV? And if I wire the converter box before the split, will both TV's receive a digital signal? Seems like I had read somewhere that you cannot split a digital signal.
Regarding the coupons, yes, I have received two coupons from the government for $40 off a converter box, but beware, there is an expiration on the coupon, which is printed where it says "valid thru".
Looks like Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy sell the converter boxes.

oldyeller, the converter box only allows you to take the digital signal that is broadcast thru the air, convert it from a digital signal, to an analog signal that you can view on your older analog TV. You do not need to purchase a dish.
Simply put, in Feb 2009, TV stations that currently send regular TV signals out to homes, RV's, etc. to the roof top antennas via analog signal, have to begin broadcasting only in digital version. How that affects you and I, is if we have an older TV that does NOT have a digital tuner built into it, but only an analog tuner in it, we will no longer be able to receive with our roof top antennas at home, or our bat wing antennas on our RV's, a TV signal. If you visit an RV park and they have cable hook up, there is nothing you need to do as the RV park would have (or should have) converted the signal for you. If you already use a dish for TV reception from Dish Network of DirectTV, you need to do nothing. This conversion ONLY affects those who recieve their TV signal with a roof top or bat wing antenna.
Your Bat Wing ANT. should pull in the digital signal just fine.
From what I have read. You will need a converter for each TV. AS this will be the TV tuner now.
Also any roof or table top ANT. that recieves UHF will rec. the digital signal
