The price of beef will be up next year but its not because farmers are selling their cows to plant corn, it will be because energy costs are way up for them also and don’t forget, pesticides and fertilizers are made out of oil which cost more now as well. Those costs and the added costs facing transportation/processing/wholesalers/distributers/retailers will effect beef like all other food commodities.

On this note, there are over 96 million cows in this country and I haven’t seen anything saying these numbers will change next year.

We can agree to disagree.

Sure you can, and there is absolutely no guarantee anywhere that either of you knows what you are talking about. That is the beauty of this forum and the origin of its priceless entertainment value.

We'd be ok for a week or two. We might not like what we were eating, but we'd have food to eat.

Living in an RV doesn't leave much room for storage ... however...

For the past ten years, I have always maintained a 60 day (+-) food inventory in my 5 th wheel. ..

Example:... I keep about 50 cans of assorted foods, 300 tea bags, 3 lb can of coffee, 10 lbs of flour and corn meal, 100 bags of instant Grits, 2 lbs of table salt and black pepper and about 30 bottles of other assorted spices...

Couple of cases of soda pop, bottled water and beer.

And I keep both freezers packed full of assorted *meats* and pizzas..

*About half of the frozen meats are already cooked* .. thus no worry about needing to cook for the first few weeks..

If the "Big One" earth quake happens here in northern Nevada/California, like the experts are saying...
I should be OK, "Food Wise" for an easy 60 days and perhaps even longer is neccessary......... I hope ...

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

The sad thing is a lot of people don't even have a 72 hour emergency kit which we've been told for years to have. It seems every time there's a major power outage, big snow storm which closes roads and stores, etc there are people who are desperate for basic supplies within a day or two. My guess is many people don't have enough food and water to make it even one week.

Someone already mentioned storing pet food. There are many things you need besides food in case you can't get to a store or the store shelves are empty. You need toilet paper, dishwashing soap, laundry detergent, feminine supplies, baby diapers if you have an infant, prescription medicine, and non-prescription medicine.

Also, you should have some cash available in case the power is out and you can't use your credit card or the bank is closed. I think it's wise to have $5, $10, and $20 dollar bills available, along with some quarters for machines.
