We could get along for a month pretty handily, and stretching it to two might even get us into a new thinner wardrobe.

I have enough food in my cupboards to last at least 2 months.......However, without electricity, my freezer would be bare.....

BUT, I live a block from a lake so fish would be no problem, 'cept my daughter wouldn't like it........

I do not have enough FRESH water but living so close to a 43,000 acre lake, that would not be a problem either.......I know how to boil/sanitize water if I HAD to.....

Come to think about it, I just got my water bill today .........I may just boil/sanitize lake water for the fun of it........

We would be able to eat well for some weeks, but we'd head home to be with our friends with whom we've salted away a goodly amount of perishables and nonperishables. Our little group could survive for about 6 months...if we can keep the kids from going through the supplies like grapes through a goose! Y2K was a nonevent thanks to one heckuva lot of work on many people's part, but we still stocked up and that has formed the base for our supplies. I think we have 5 yrs worth of t.p.! Garden is in, wine and mead are fermenting in the basement, and MO has lots of rivers to fish. Can't say we're survivalists but I see nothing wrong with being prepared.

We also have a small arsenal in the house, we'll never go hungry.

LOL. But in this case, all of those gold bars are worthless!!
BTW, do you stockpile Coke and coffee?

Nope, tequila and grapefruit juice

Mormon, 3, we could survive a few weeks, but my family would complain the whole time.

Had neighbor stock up for the Y2k that didn't materialize. They ended up throwing all that food away.

We stocked up for Y2K too and had enough for 13 people for 1 yr. Donated all the dehydrated food to our neighbors ministry, so if we ever get into a problem I know where to go - got a tax deduction for it too. NEVER throw away food - unless it's spoiled of course. There are too many food banks needing it.

Domino's delivers...

I know you're kidding. I live in Houston and during hurricane Rita this whole town of 6mil went crazy. Long lines at all the stores, people were frantic, nothing was open, not even Domino's!! I saw fear in the faces of a lot of people, standing in line as people were clutching a 4 pack of toilet paper and a bottle of water! It was very sobering. All gas stations were out of gas. I witnessed car accidents and the police were so overwhelmed they just looked on. And if we think Uncle Sam will make everything better, or "save" us look at hurricane Katrina and New Orleans!! I just think we should be a little more prepared.

Of course I'm kidding.
But I know what it's like. Having lived through more than one blizzard and more than my share of hurricanes including Charley, Jeanne, Ivan and Andrew. We've gone through extended periods of time without electricity, cable TV, and all the other niceties we take for granted.

Each and every time we managed quite well precisely because we were prepared and know better than to depend upon government to make things all better.
I have no qualms with being prepared, it's these doomsday scenarios I can't take seriously...
