We had this very same experience this week when looking for a ski boat. We found a 1997 Maxum that was being described as in very good condition, but in truth the thing looked almost new. I bought it right on the spot after looking at several others that were described as "excellent" and "like-new" that showed lots a wear and tear.
Boats are another item that are supposedly not selling because of high gas prices and the "terrible economy" but I called on several that sold within days of going up for sale. One of our local boat dealers delivered 7 boats last Friday alone and they were swamped with potential buyers.

After reading the various posts on this thread, I took more pics of my trailer and sent them to a prospective buyer and did a few of the little things mentioned to spruce up the trailer and this afternoon sold it! Thanks everyone.

We didn't get one. We are going to wait another year and see what happens. The one we saw was advertised as being like new and it was far from it. We like the model and will keep our eyes open for another one. This one was even dented from a blow out. It was an '05 Gulfstream conquest 298DBS. They advertised it as an '04 because thats when they bought it. Said it was hardly used but the carpet was worn out in and out of the bedroom. I think they lived in it. It was filthy. They told my wife on the phone that it still smelled new. We were disapointed, but since our '98 trailer is working good, we are treating it to new tires and brakes and hanging onto it for now.

I just bought my second TT from the same dealer who sold me a new unit last year. We got a seasonal site so I went with something bigger but lightly used. The dealer was very aggressive with his pricing as my ultralight Antigua bunk slide would sell quickly compared to the one I bought.
I thought gas prices would dampen some of the camping activity around but I saw a lot of new 3/4 ton gas and diesel TVs hauling new, big TT's and 5th wheels Memorial weekend. People are having to cut back somewhere but I didn't see too many that were willing to give up their RV lifestyle.

We just sold our 2005 Jayco JayFlight 25 RKS two days ago (28'3" long 5315 dry wt). We advertised in the local "Mini Nickel" and in the local newspaper. It took 3 weeks to sell and I showed it to about a dozen people. We asked $13,999 and sold it for exactly that. It was in excellent condition and was very clean inside and out. We ordered a 2009 JayFeather Sport 218 that same day.

Just keep in mind that if you expect to buy low then you should expect to sell low. It is a lot of work to buy low and sell high. Don't give it away, just be realistic with your expectations.

We looked for a used TT for about 8 months and I think I can honestly say we probably looked at 20-25 units with floorplans that we were interested in. Some would have worked for us and were reasonable priced, BUT they were incredibly filthy. I'm talking cushions that were very dirty, food crumbs and trash in the cabinets, filthy bathrooms. Some of these TT looked like somebody was living in them full time and never cleaned anything. No matter how well it looked on the outside, when we got inside and saw this mess, we turned around and left with no further discussion. My feeling was, if they cannot keep the inside reasonably clean, they probably didn't maintain the mechanicals either. Spend a day and clean and scrub the inside, maybe have the cushions cleaned, if the inside is spotless, there will be a lot more interest in your unit. In the end, we found a used 2 year old Jayco that looked like it just left the dealers lot. Purchased it on the spot at the asking price. Just my .02.
I agree 100%. We just bought ours last month. We looked for about a month in dealer lots and private listings. We saw a few that we're dirty and that turned us off big time. We ended up getting a 2002 Prowler that still smelled new. Very clean inside and out. This trailer really stood out from the rest.
BTW...We found it on Craig's list. We paid the low NADA retail for it. It is a buyers market for sure.
I agree with both of you - we bought ours last fall & it was eleven years old. However it was almost like new inside (except for the dated green colors). Found it on Craigslist too.
