Walmart has little invested the inventory you see on the shelves. Most is on consignment from suppliers. When it sells, Walmart sends payment. If it doesn't sell, the supplier takes it back and eats it.

Best move I ever did to counter rising fuel prices was back in 1982 I started buying EXXON stock and put it in their DRIP plan and every now and then added a few dollars. It was a much better move than any boycott.

Bill&Pam wrote: Exxon/Mobil just announced their PROFITS for the first quarter - $10.89 BILLION. Wal-Mart had more revenue than Exxon last year but it took nearly a full year before Wal-Mart had that much profit.
I don't buy any fuel from Exxon - that I'm aware of - ever. And I realize that Exxon refineries will still sell to independents. But if those that buy from Exxon would buy somewhere else during the month of May, I think it might send a message.
Let's boycott Exxon/Mobil for the month of May.
Anyone that visits other forums, please post there.
Gosh Bill & Pam,
From the looks of your sig....you made some pretty decent profits at one time too. I am glad that your customers/boss didn't boycott you.

The oil companies EARN 8 cents per gallon of gasoline. The Federal government TAKES 20 cents per gallon. Plus your state and local governments TAKING their share. Who's ripping us off?

houtrz wrote: Exxon making a ten percent profit isn't anything to brag about. Look at how much money some of the drug companies make but no body talks about that.
They are building more refineries as we speak and are starting to do more drilling here domestically but that will take some time (2-5 years) before we really see any of that but it will help somewhat but the day of what we called cheap gas is over I think.
NOT! The EXXON CEO just stated at an open stock holder's meeting that they would not be doing any exploration or building any refineries as they were doing what they could to drive prices, oops I meant profits up to give the stock holders a better ROI!

Somebody check my figures: Dutch Royal Shell reported 17 Billion last quarter.
If you make 17 Billion in 1 quarter, you can make in 1 year 17*4= 68Billion /year.
Dutch Royal Shell contributed 30 million dollars last year to alternative energy research.
30 million dollars sounds like alot of money, but is it?
30 million dollars represents .0441 % of $68 Billion.
Putting it in perspective to you and I, let's say you earn $50,000 per year salary. You go to church and contribute .0441% to the church per year.
That means you contribute $22.05 per year to the church or you put approx 42 cents in the offering plate every Sunday morning. WOW!

Exxon made 10.8 billion on products they produced and sold. How much did governments make and they've produced NOTHING. Think about it, why deamonize the oil companies and not the government for the price of fuel? How much do you pay in taxes when you buy a gallon of gasoline? Here are some of the highest..
New York - 62.9¢
California - 60¢
Nevada - 51.9¢
Florida - 49.8¢
That is direct profit to big government and they do NOTHING.
WOW, roads by where you live build themselves?? How interesting! Do they self repair potholes too? Are bridges built by volunteers or do they grow naturally too? The gas tax funds the roads that we all take for granted and gripe about the condition of daily. Take away the funding that builds and maintains them and your RV repair bill will QUICKLY eclispe your gasoline bill....
