My advice still stands. If you feel at all uncomfortable with the rust, get it inspected at a local propane dealer. They'll gladly look at it for you and give you a condition report, most likely for free.

There is a huge difference between a tank sitting in your back yard and one that travels down the highway being exposed to rocks, salt, and extreme vibration.

It's your life and those around you, so there's nothing like being a bit careful when dealing with such a potentially dangerous item.
