We just switched from Dish to Direct TV. Waaaaaay better picture quality and sound. The XM radio that comes with it is much more to out liking than Dish, although we miss the Elvis Channel.

There is an ad in the current Motor Home magazine that offers a complete home set up with an extra dish and wires for RV use. If you buy from Direct TV, they charge a bunch for the extra dish, and then want $40 to deliver it.

I would say that from reading these posts that the jury is not out concerning a dome. unless you get one of the few that will not be obsolete in 2010, I would consider a person to not be the sharpest knife in the drawer.
but that's JMHO

I have Dish. And it has worked well for us. Now we don't do a lot of switching from sat to sat. We pretty much get it tuned into 119, where all our programs are such as Speed Channel. I have KVH, because it's the one that came on the coach. I pleased. For the most part it's been operator error. But on several occasions I have had to call tech at KVH. Excellent Excellent service. The tech on the line, you could understand and they were very knowledgeable and patient. I'm not much of a tech person and have little patients. I want it to work when I want it to work. But I probably would go back with these folks at KVH because of the service. I really think it's important to have someone to call. And it very difficult to talk to someone at the dealership that really knows or has time to talk. In most cases that have to call tech services. That's kinda how I learned the tech number and how to use the dish. Spent a complete morning with the tech and about 5 calls to KVH. As for Dish Network. I must say it's no fun to call them. And if it's about the receiver in your home, there ok, if you can understand them. If you have questions about one in a motorhomes, most don't know what a motorhomes is. It can be flustrating. I learning to not get in a hurry with the unit.

good luck,
Hank

And how do you know our Domes can not be upgraded? Everyone is an expert. Give me some actual facts.

As for haveing a Dome my MH came with it only reason I got it. Other wise I would have a reg roof dish.

Because I have studied the way the domes are constructed, I know how they work and I know what can be done with them

This is not to say someone may not, some day, come out with a dual band dome, but it will be enough different from what we have now that upgrade won't be the operating term.. REPLACEMENT will. A whole new dome will be needed.. For one thing, it needs to be bigger

Dome or roof mounted dish or tripod mounted dish

Dome: Can see one sat at a time, Good for DirecTV standard television, however if you have dish, or either service HDTV and more than one receiver, or a dual input DVR, then you may need to see more than one satellite at a time, NO dome can do that.
SNIP>>>>

King Dome does not agree with you. They say their dome switches satellites and receives HDTV.
"Extremely fast satellite acquisition and tracking
Works with DIRECTV, DISH Network & ExpressVU receivers (receiver not included)
No cable wrap (unlimited rotation)
Integrated DVB technology
Direct satellite switching for DISH 500, DIRECTV Plus and HDTV
Low profile unit, only 12" high.
Dual LNB. Dual system enables viewing different channels on multiple televisions using 2 receivers.
White or Black dome available."

I don't know who is right here, just passing along the information I saw.

BTW, I have had DirecTV for 15+ years starting with one of the first auto seek dishes and now a KVH in motion dome. It has always worked flawlessly for me.

They can currently receive around 14 of the almost 100 HD stations. Those stations will be moving to the 99 adn 103 satellites over the next few years so eventually you will not get any HD from DirecTV. Dish is also moving to the new frequencies in a couple of years once they can get another satellite up in orbit. Their last one was DOA this year.

So while technically true I'd be pretty pissed that I'm only getting around 10% of the HD offered and that number will decrease over time.

If you are with Dish the dome will work for now. You will have issues with it in a couple of years. For some of you that will work and for others you will be back on here screaming in 2 years why your dome no longer works and how you got screwed etc..

Do your own research and buyer beware.

We have the in motion KVH R5 and son has the in motion Wingard and both work as advertised. If you plan on going to HD in the future Wingard just came out with an automatic antenna mentioned but it is only usable when stationary. We have used Direct TV at home and RV for 10 plus years and are satisfied.

The RV can now have an in motion dome, a HD stationary and Hughes Satellite Hi Speed Internet dish. We are starting to look like tactical vehicles.
