I'm buying a TT out of the state, so I went to my local dealer to visit like I normally do, to say hi. This is the same dealer I bought my first two TTer's from and the same people who throw me the keys to all the TT's when I come in because they know my young sons love to walk through their TTer's.. I just sold my TT and I order a new and different one from out of state. We'll I went in the other day to say hello and to ask their prices on extended warranties. I told them I found a new TT I liked and ordered it the other day. My local dealer does not carry this model but they do carry TT's made by the same manufacture. I said " I guess I'll bring my new TT here for warranty work". They said NO! You have to take your TT to where you purchased it. I thought they were kidding. They were not. So now I guess I will have to find a dealer that will accept my TT warranty work or drive all the way to where I purchased it from. There is alot more they said and why they won't accept my TT's warranty work, but how disappointing is that!

I don't understand some dealers were you talking to a salesman?
I'll bet the service manager would like to do warrantee or any other work you might need.
There are at least 4 dealers in my area, I would take my trailer to 3 of them.
so count your blessing and I hope there is a good dealer close.

you and others may not like it, but it is pretty standard.
Warranty work pays poorly not just for RVs. I don't blame them for not wanting to work on something they will not get paid for or is a net loss to the company.
If you wanted that specific product you should have found a dealer that would get what you wanted a little closer or do a dealer trade.

I can't believe they wouldn't want to do warranty work, if fact I think the manufacturer would like to know that a dealer of their product would refuse to provide such work. However, I surely would not expect to be very high on their work priority list over their customers.

They can do warranty work but some refuse or threaten because you bought it somewhere else. I purchsed mine out of state and saved $8,000.00. The warranty is normally 1 year some have 2 years. The local dealers are upset because they are not making $8K in pure profit. They are whining to the MFG to get relief from the other dealers under selling them, Thats called competition, I hate whiney local rip-off dealers

Most people do not know how warranty works for a dealer. I found out only because one of my sons is a 3rd year journeyman mech and went to work for Nissan. He hated warranty work as they generally loose money doing it. The factory decides on how long you have to change a particular part and even for someone who works on cars all the time can hardly do it. Perfect example is changing a titan engine, factory allows 16 hrs to remove and replace and it take most mechanics over 3 days so 22 hrs or so. It is one reason shop rates are as high as they are, they loose on one side and make it up on the other. My son is moving from Nissan to go over to BMW. Reason for the change was not the work but how they were paid. They were working as a 'Team' and billed hrs were averaged for the team. Sounds good until you have a couple guys on the team that either don't care or are given all the poor jobs (like warranty) and their average drags everyone else's down. My son was pretty consistent in bulling over 150% (billing 12 hrs in an 8 hr day (don't you love it when you pay going by the book) but very seldom the whole team added up to 100% .

A local dealer I know showed me the actual hours they were paid for replacing a front "cap" on a trailer. It was a little more than 1/2 of what it actually took. When they sell a rig, they cover that loss in the sales price. Or to put it another way, a part of "overhead" for the service department comes out of sales. You can't expect him to be happy about warranty work for a rig bought elsewhere--he may lose money on it.
It is common practice to take those jobs but they will sit at the back of the lot until they have some down time when 1/2 pay is better than no pay,

So, you buy two TT's from them, they service them for you on a regular basis, your on a first name basis with them, and they let your kids use their inventory as a playground. You would assume they did a good job for you as you bought two from them and now want them to service the third. But, you can't understand why they might be a bit upset about you buying somewhere else without even giving them an opportunity. Did you think you were a partner or a best friend? You think maybe they are trying to make a living?

Lot of talk here but I have to agree with you Medfly, if they want my business they have to meet my needs not just theirs or I am going elsewhere. Yes, they are in business to make money but if they want mine they have to earn it, in the maner that I say,or I can and will go somewhere els. I don't mind paying a premium price for the service I receive(I will never like it) but it always comes down to customer service.

Pay the going rate for parts and labor and you might get what you should. Customer service and meeting your needs are one thing; operating at a loss is another, how much service do you expect for nothing.
