The water pump in my new TT is extremely noisy. It shakes and vibrates the entire TT when it comes on, and can even be heard outside. I figure it's just a cheap OEM pump, and figure that one of the nicer pumps avaliable in the catalogs may run quieter. Before I lay down $150 or so for a new pump, has anybody else had any experience with the higher-end water pumps to say how much quieter that they are? I know household well pumps make no more noise than a running fridge, are the better RV WP's like this too? I did notice that some of the pumps run up to 65 PSI verus my current one at 40 PSI. That ought to make for a better shower.

I put an accumulator tank on my camper, and it did two things....

1 -- quieted down the pump noise.

2 -- pump runs less frequently (accumlator acts as a "pressure reservoir")

The common fixes for noise reduction are first isolate the pump from it's mounting surface. For some reason builders love mounting the pump to a large flat surface that acts like drum head when the pump comes on increasing the noise a couple hundred percent.
The next step is to replace a portion of the input and output lines with reinforced flexible tubing if the builder has used more rigid tubing. And to make sure the rest of the tubing isn't resting on something that acts like a resonator.
Even the quietest pump can be noisy if the above wasn't followed in the installation.
Accumulator tanks can help with the noise and pulsing, but remember once they supply the volume they hold the pump will come on and run longer to build the pressure back up AND to refill the accumulator.

As for the shower, we've found it's more in the shower head than the pump. Take a look and see it you can separate it. If you can you'll wind a restrictor washer of some kind used to reduce the VOLUME down to the 1.5 GPM. Pulling it will increase the flow to whatever GPM and tubing will allow.

Hi
there's lot of pump have the hard/stiff hose going into them and out. you need to put two or three feet of soft flex water hose on the out side of your pump and this will cut down on the noise this is about a 5-10 dollar fix . you need two hose barbs 4 hose clamps and 2-3 feet of soft water line hose( same size as your water line)let me know if this works. what your getting a vibration of the water line through the pump

Like Mike said, the common fixes are:

1. Noise Isolation Mount on water pump

2. Flexible Input/Output water lines

3. Accumulator Tank (2 gallon suggested)

4. Foam pipe tubing on water lines that contact floors, walls, etc...

My setup below - it is so quiet you can't hear it run unless you open the front pass through hatch...

My pump is shock mounted etc, as above, and is super quiet. But, whenever I let the tank run empty or almost so, it gets really loud. Seems to be air in the lines. On refill, it sometimes takes a couple of days to get quiet again.

I agree, make sure you get all the air out before spending $150.00.

On my Minnie, the water pump has rubber feet to isolate the pump noise from the floor. The factory tightened the screws down so tight that the rubber was compressed flat. I loosened the screws so the rubber could flex and it made a world of difference. Cost = $0.

Also, make sure they used flex hose on the inlet and outlet.

My set up is similar to Les'. You need to isolate the pump so the surges don't reveberate through the hard PEX plumbing. I used a stainless faucet hose from the local big orange store...

I doubt if it is your pump or even how it's mounted unless as someone already posted they overtightened the screws in the shock mounts. Most water pumps already have some flex hose in the inlet and outlet, but a major source of noise in where those flexible lines mate to the hard lines and how the hard lines are secured. I would recommending putting either some rubber or hard foam under the union where the flex mates to the hard line and then a conduit type clamp about 3 inches down on the hard line and then another about 6 to 7 inches from the first. Most of the noise IMHO is from the flex lines vibrating the hard line and it bangs against the floor or even some vertical surface. My fix is probably under $2 for the conduit clamps and you might even have some of those already. Below is how I did mine:

By just doing this I made my water pump so quiet I can't hear it unless I either open the cabinet or put my ear right next to it. I need to at least hear it so if I hear it cycling I can find the leak and fix it.
