Although I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, I can't seem to view saved programs on my DirecTV DVR unless I'm locked onto a satellite signal. I thought that recording a bunch of movies/programs in the stick house and then moving the DVR into the trailer would be a great idea for those rainy nights...
I can only get it to work if I have the trailer's portable dish up and running.
Does anyone know how to watch saved shows without locking on to the satellite, and if so, how? Thanks!

Should work just fine. You will get the normal setup******when you first turn it on because its looking for the satellites but we use ours without signal. Just try and exit out of the satellite finding stuff and you should be able to pull up your programs in the menus.
Ours is a Dish system so may be different, but when it's trying to "acquire satellite" I just hit the DVR button to bring up the recordings and watch with no problems. We don't even take our portable dish along anymore since we prefer parking in the shade and choose campgrounds with lots of trees.
Be sure and post back here when you figure it out... whether you can't do that with Direct or if there's another solution you uncover.

Off the grid and outta sight at home
Go camping to have neighbors and amenities
You can view them however.. You may have to wait a long time for the DVR to figure out the satellite is "Out of view" There is a way to hurry it along but it's been long enough since I argued with my DirecTV DVR that I don't recall it.
But it will let you in.. Eventually
THough it does need to see the bird on occasion or the authorizations time out and then it won't work.
