I never considered taking off the hitch head. It also never occurred to me that someone would steal a hitch head. I'm more worried about the catalytic converters (I wish there were a way to lock those). My hitch head stays on the truck at all times.

The bars and pins live in a gun bag, that I keep (both full and empty) in the small front compartment of the trailer.

Sorry to bring up someone stealing the stuff. I just was thinking that's $400 just sitting there! Glad no one has jumped in saying they have had one stolen! I guess I just did not like the idea of it just laying around either. I kind of like everything in its place!

We keep the bars, small brackets & hitch head in the covered, locked truck bed when not in use. We did recently get a locking pin for the hitch head, though, so might consider leaving that on more often.

I put the spring bars in the TT bumper after removing the stinky slinky. If I'm going to stay more than a day or two, I wrap an old towel around the hitch head, and put it in the cargo compartment of my TT. This keeps grease off everything, and doesn't scratch up the vinyl flooring within the compartment.

i leave the hitch head locked in the receiver of the truck. i lay the bars behind the propane tanks, on the a-frame of the tongue.
the hitch head is the most expensive piece so i keep it hooked to the truck, instead of putting it under the trailer.

Bars on the tongue, clips just inside TT door on floor under fire extinguisher. Hitch head left in receiver with grease wiped off.

Believe it or not after you hit your knee on it a few times, you will not again. Haven't hit my knee in many many years. Hitch head is WAY too heavy for my back to fool with it for no real reason.

We keep the hitch head in and use a locking pin. Bars and stored in bags DW made locked in the bed of the pickup. See links for pics of the bags DW made:

I find the hitch head makes a lot of noise when I drive with it on (and no weight on it)

Added a set of Bar Buddys to the trailer tongue.. They work great and it is easy to lock the bars in them for safekeeping (simply lock the chains together)

One of my favorite additions.
