My MH sags in the front.1989 HR p30 454. I noticed that both air bags inside the coil springs don't hold air. Any suggestions on whether I should try new air bags or just replace the coil springs. I called around and the springs are in stock at a local parts store (I was told by a rv dealer that they are the same as any old chevy 1 ton chassis spring).

Do not just put chevy springs on your P30, They were junk when fisr installed and they are still junk.Go with henderson springs available from camping world or if your dealer gets his RV acessories from Coast distribution, get the maximum rated front springs and throw away the air bags they were only a bandaid for the poor stock springs.I installed these on my past motor home and on my son in law's and could not have been happier. Good luck

Hundreds of thousands of P30 chassis on the road, I doubt if the springs are junk. The P30 was sold as a bare chassis and air bags were admittedly a band aid for a lot of different weight houses that were built on it.

Getting the heaviest weight spring could end up giving a really harsh ride that isn't necessary. Weigh the axles, get springs made for the weight your front axle carries if you decide to go that way.

Or do it the cheap way, put new air bags back in. I would be willing to bet the ones in there are original. If they lasted this long, logic says the set you install will outlast the motor home. And they work fine if you take a little time to play with the air pressure.

I had Donovan Springs in Manchester NH install one grade up from factory and new airbags in my 93 Winnebago. I still did not change the rake in the front but the ride was outstanding.

Suggest replacing air bags with Firestone or Ride Rite . They are much better then the GM ones. Follow air pressure for your specific weight.
If you have owners manual the air bag pressures are given there dpending on what suspension is in your rig.
I run 90 lbs in my air bags.
The Henderson springs are good but probably not worth the money on your year of rig.

Maybe I'll try a set of air bags first. I don't know what to compare the ride with. I just bought the MH and have not driven any other class A. Will the bags give me a few inches of lift or just stiffen the ride. They leak so bad I can't even get 50psi in them for a minute to see.

Just how bad are you sagging?? I am running my P30 with out any bags on the stock springs and it travels just fine. I started out with the bags and about 70 lbs, on a trip they both lost pressure and I couldn't tell the difference. I don't know just what my front end weight is so I may be lighter then you are but the stock springs work good for us.

Measure your bump stop clearance fully loaded. If it is under 1 3/4 inch, you need more pressure. If over 2 1/2, let some out.

A P30 without air bags is scary, indeed.

A good alignment by an experienced MH guy to GM MH specs is good, too. Some shops use the potato-chip truck specs. Not as good.
