In my weekly post to the Official Blog of the Open Road I'm talking about how to enjoy visiting a casino RV park with the kids. Take a look at it and if you have some ideas, questions, or comments come back here and let's talk.
There's a link near the bottom of the article that brings you back here.

My kids would have MURDERED me if I'd ever tried to take them camping in a parking lot (and DW would have helped them)

Oh how very sad for any kids who have to camp in a parking lot just so their parents can gamble!

Give 'em each a roll of quarters and tell 'em to have fun.

I can see how this might be the first thing that comes to mind, but "Casino Camping" isn't just blacktop boondocking. Many casinos have RV Resorts with full amenities, and here's a post from back in January that gives a few examples.
Some family-friendly casinos will have theatres, bowling alleys, and arcades inside. One in Las Vegas even has an ice skating rink! Outside you'll often find swimming pools, and sometimes fishing/boating lakes, hiking trails, or even riding stables. Don't forget the amusement parks and thrill rides too.
Casinos these days often make as much or more income from entertainment, food, and other non-gambling lines of business as they do from the casino floor. Most casinos that want to prosper in a highly competitive "locals" market need to appeal to the whole family, and even to families of non-gamblers. The same holds true for casinos in areas known for outdoor recreation. They can't grow and be successful on gambling alone, they must offer the types of activities that people visit that area to do.

How much do all of these activities cost per child and what year was it?

I still stand by my statement. You should also change the title of the thread. That ain't camping, it is staying in a resort in a portable apartment instead of a stick-built one.

Everyone has their own idea of what camping is to them. Some think camping is sleeping under the stars with nothing but a sleeping bag..........mix it up and have a little fun........nothing wrong with that.

I don't think many people are going to pick a casino as a final destination for family camping. But I can certainly see how stopping through at one for a couple of nights along the way might be fun. It would be something different. We will probably try it at some point.
Some campgrounds are really no better than parking lots anyway. One of the things I love about our motorhome is that we can do all kinds of different things in it.
We can stay in a "parking lot" campground and go visit NYC.
We can boondock
We can stay in luxury RV resorts
We can stay the night in a friend's driveway
We can stay in the infield for an indy race
We can use it for tailgating
We can use it as a guest house for company
We can use it for local day trips
There are no "right" and "wrong" folks. We all have different ways we RV or "camp" and that's the beauty of it. It seems some people are quick to judge others just because we enjoy different things.
The last time I checked, this forum was RV.net.....not Camping.net.
Thanks for article Mac...I always enjoy reading about different uses for my RV and places we can visit.
