At Mesa Regal RV Resort, can you walk to restaurants and other shopping close by outside the park? We have friends that live in Gold Canyon and are trying to decide between Canyon Vistas and Mesa Regal for Feb-Mar next winter.

We have stayed at both parks, Mesa Regal 1 year, and Canyon Vista 2 years. For our use we prefer Canyon Vista as there more RVs and less park models. Each park has there advantages so "to each his own".

We spent last Feb at Mesa Regal. Good park. Not walking distance to very much.
However, one block West on Main St (from greenfield) is the Midwestern Cafe. It's great food at a very inexpensive price. They also have a butcher shop and a bakery there.

Not sure about Gold Canyon. Buy the way, our electric bill at Mesa was 47.00 for the month.

We stayed at Mesa Regal last winter. It was handy as we could ride the bike or walk to Superstition Ranch Market and Fry's grocery was just out the corner of the resort. They had tons of things to do and entertainment too. We also enjoyed the Midwestern Meat Market. But our concern for next year is whether there will be any RV spots left. They were putting in new PArk Models every day and seem to have a lot of them sold every year. Our spot was backed up to a park model and we couldn't see anything out of our big picture window. Not sure where would be a good choice. Do not want to be our so far in Gold Canyon as we have lots of winter friends in Mesa.

Yeah, and the nice lady at Gold Canyon says that in 5 years they will be mostly park models also. So these parks use us for income until they can fill them with year round park models. What a rip! Chris

WEll - as I understand it - under their zoning etc. they (eg Mesa Regal) must keep at least 20% of their spaces open for travelling rvers (ie. not parkmodels). And technically park models are RVs - taxed/licensed as such.
Now - just what is wrong with being in a mix of park models? Virtually all pm owners are still RVers or were rvers before they opted for the increased space, and for many - the ease of migrating back and forth - with out hauling everything.
There is not and should not be any 'conflicts' between pm owners and mobile rv owners. A lot of us own and use both!

We settled on Canyon Vistas in Gold Canyon. Feb and March next year. One of our friends that lives in Gold Canyon Community visited both the other day and helped us settle on Canyon Vistas.

Spent last winter at Sun Life (a sister park of Mesa Regal) and visited Canyon Vista several times. All 3 are Cal Am parks.

Canyon Vista is the newest and has bigger sites. It has more RVs than park models but that will change as more park models are sold. We stayed in or MH in Sun Life but have purchased a park model that we will use in the future. Sun Life is smaller than Mesa Regal (about 760 compared to 2000+ at Mesa). Canyon Vista is also about 750 sites. Sun Life and Mesa Regal have more shopping, etc. close by. Golden Canyon has breaktaking views of Superstition Mountains. We seriously considered putting our park model in Canyon Vista but in the end preferred the shopping and a bit more extensive activity list at Sun Life. We knew some folks at Sun Life before we went and arranged to park on one of the inside lots (N6) as opposed to where most Mhs were located...on the perimeter streets. We found that most park model owners were at one time mhs or 5th wheelers and many still are in the summer back home. Contrary to what some have said, we did not experience any feeling of discrimination between the park model owners and the mhs like ourselves. I think that sometimes what happens is that the rv'rs tend to park together and get to know each other and do not get to know the park model owners who are living in a "different part" of the park...the different part being the interior streets as opposed to the perimeter streets. Plus, many of the rv'rs (certainly not all as we stayed almost 3 mo) turn over a bit faster than the park model owners. And, the park model owners tend to be residents for more years and thus have gotten to know each other. So...I would feel comfortable in any of the parks...Canyon Vista, Mesa Regal, or Sun Life in either our mh or our park model. One of the things that we did was to get involved in a great number of activities...painting, shuffleboard, cards, coffee mornings, quilting, etc. and we volunteered to put on a couple of computer seminars on security issues and digital photo organization that were well attended. In other words, we got involved and our rewards came back in the way of friends (both park model owners and fellow mhs). We are looking forward to next winter. And we are keeping the mh since we plan on summer camping and travel. It just made economic sense for us to keep our old non-slide mh and buy the park model as we believed that our depreciation on the park model even if we sell in a year or two is by far less than what we would suffer by driving a newer 2/3 slide model off the dealers lot. Our 99 Itasca continues to serve us well in our traveling but without the slides becomes a bit small after a month or two in one spot.

Good luck with your decision. In addition to Canyon Vista and Mesa Regal, you might want to check out Sun Life.

Mark, thanks for your insight. We do plan on getting involved with the many activities available. I will get a RC race car or truck as Canyon Vistas has a track for them. This may lead to a new way of life for us. It is going to be hard to give up the home we live in, but the cost are going way up to live on the water here. So with a lot of friend in Az this will be a good test. Check web site "My Rig" in first post. Chris
