Quote: i am interested in knowing how someone will catch 24 gallons of unleaded??
They probably won't care if they get all of it. As long as they get what they can hold (buckets, perhaps?) that will suffice for them. People who do this are not desperate, they're vandals. And they're not thinking logically.

back during the 70's gas crunch there was a couple of guys that had a van with a trap door in the floor and barrels stored inside they would drive over the fill hole run a hose down into the tank and pump it out into the barrels in the back of the van till they got caught.

I have a 2006 3500 Silverado Duramax. Does it have the anti-siphon fuel inlet? I have been wondering if I needed to look into a locking fuel cap.

Whatever you do, don't put on a locking gas cap, My SIL had a locking gas cap and they did punch a hole into her tank and drained the gas tank. Cost them more than just a tank full of gas. Bella

I agree with Bella,I would rather they steal the gas thru the cap than punch a hole in my 75 gallon tank and have to replace the tank and other parts like a new fuel pump which is around $400 plus labor.

Several years ago (around 1980) some thieves stole fuel from my airplane. They had a pickup with a 300 gallon tank and pump in the bed. The biggest problem, aside from contaminating the tank or rupturing the rubber bladder (which they didn't do), was back into the aileron. That little dent cost me $3000. I offered another $3500 reward. They nabbed the suckers and they ended up doing some time in the local jail.
I then built my own hangar that I could lock.

They just have a couple of 5 gallon gas cans. As much as they can run with. The rest goes on the ground. In the Dallas area the most often is filling up and driving off without paying. Pretty soon it will be back to the pay before you pump deal.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

Here is a good one..
GRAND JUNCTION - The sheriff's office says two men trying to steal gas from a boat instead started a fire.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says Cody Sellards and Timothy Long tried to steal gas from Hank Ibarra's boat early Friday morning.
"They were looking inside the gas can to see how much room, or how full the gas can was of gas," said Heather Benjamin, spokesperson for the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. "They looked into it with a cigarette lighter and the fumes caught on fire."

It already is in many places. Rockport, TX, for one, has a "pay before you pump" ordinance, and I believe other towns in the area do this also. This puts the onus on the "law" and not the station operators, but they lobbied for it.

We have had a lot of construction going on at our new church facility. We have had diesel stolen several different times in different ways lately. We now have a hidden video camera, but nothing taken lately.
