What makes me leery, is in Aug we will be doing a fam-dam-ly campout, so there will be a lot of us. Because of work and stuff some will be coming on different days etc, And because the lake is way in the boonies', you have to have enough gas to get back to civilization. But the campground is small so extra parking is minimal. And extra cars have to be parked in overflow. Which is way out of sight of the campground. Would hate to have a gas tank punctured. It will be bad enough if the just steal the gas, but if they were to puncture that would mean getting a tow truck out there (not good!) Ought to be interesting! Bella

RV is no problem, just a couple of motion sensors and a "grove" flood valve feeding several sprinklers on the RV roof, instant rain! Unpleasant enough to make people move on.

Someone here in Silverdale stole fuel from the tanks of the local foodbank vehicles..Now that's about as low as you can go.. They also either just punched holes in the tank and took what they wanted and let the rest drain or spilled a whole bunch on the ground and the foodbank had to pay for a big clean-up besides the theft and damage..

Believe me, had someone punched my SIL gas tank in their driveway, my Brother would have been all over it. It was in a parking lot of a grocery store! Don't think it can't happen to you. They actually live in a very small town. And it was late at night and she ran to do the shopping and they struck while she was in the store. So I don't think anyone its immune to them if they want to try it. Bella

A couple of months ago, the industrial park by us was hit by gas thieves. No punching holes or siphoning through the gas inlet... they cut the fill tube underneath that goes to the gas tank thereby by passing the locking gas cap. I looked under my truck and saw how easily this could be done. If thieves worked as hard figuring out honest problems the world would be a better place.

I got a 29 acre jobsite in the boonies, lots of atv'rs hit us for fuel and the usual theft. We leave a few Gas Cans chained with enuff chain that they can pour it out, however we spike the Fuel with Karo syrurp.
I am just waiting for the day when someone complains, hehe. Had a storage container they cut the locks off with a bolt cutter, and it was across the way from a Home Depot, yep, the silly idiots bought a bolt cutter and then returned it. The cops pulled up as the idiots were trying to open up a gangbox in their driveway, got a 3 month holiday in the local county lockup !

newk wrote: Several years ago (around 1980) some thieves stole fuel from my airplane. They had a pickup with a 300 gallon tank and pump in the bed. The biggest problem, aside from contaminating the tank or rupturing the rubber bladder (which they didn't do), was back into the aileron. That little dent cost me $3000. I offered another $3500 reward. They nabbed the suckers and they ended up doing some time in the local jail.
I then built my own hangar that I could lock.
The airplane thieves here stole my friends radios GPS and transponder.
They broke into his locked hanger at night no one could see them He did have insurance. one time it would have been better tied outside.

"Why can't they make a gas can that doesn't leak fumes?"
They do .... I store a two gallon one for my Honda generator in one of my Class C's compartments.
But they don't give these type of gas containers away. My two gallon one set me back around $70 - fully safety certified and odor free - unless I spill some gas on the outside of it when filling it or emptying it.
