My favorite so far Cherokee North Carolina and West Point COE Lake, Georgia. It's more about the company than the camp ground though for us. Dream Trip - also a toss up, Grand Canyon or Alaska!
1. Alaska -- too many great places to mention just one.
2. Northwest -- Washington, Oregon and northern California have beautiful mountain forests and even better coastlines.
3. Northern Rockies -- Glacier, Grand Teton and Yellowstone Parks are awesome, but FS campgrounds between them are plentiful and more relaxing. As an example, the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming are home to me. They're not so breath-taking as the national parks, but there are no crowds, no heavy traffic, no tourist traps and few tourists. For a quiet few days of getting close to nature, it's hard to beat the Bighorns. (The same could be said for many other mountains in the Rocky Mountain West, but these are MINE.)
4. Northern shores of Lake Superior -- just beautiful!
We have really enjoyed visiting the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania; we stop every time we are close. Wakarusa, IN & Dover, DE are places we stop if we are close. Ft. Worth was interesting. Alaska is where we want to go, and we are on the way, as I type.
Just finishing up here in the Nations Capital, what a remarkable place especially at night. Heading up the east coast with stops in Atlantic City, NJ area and not sure where else but headed for our target of Bar Harbor Maine on May 15th. Two weeks to enjoy all Maine has to offer, the to Niagara Falls (us side ) and then back to the smokey's after that. Next year hoping to do the great northwest.
