Unless you're running gauges on a diesel, remember at least a 3-5minute cooldown after towing. This allows the engine to cool which cools the oil. If shutdown while hot the engine oil will continue to cook in the turbo. This will leave an undesired coat behind. Short lifespan. Only required when towing. No problem when putting around town empty.
As mentioned, avoid the 6.0l Ford Powerstroke. Older 7.3l Ford ok if oil changes are very consistent. Manual tranny Dodge Cummins are great candidate for an exhaust brake.
