When ordering our new 5er we decided to go with a portable satellite dish. Now it is time to make up our mind as to DirecTV or Dish. We have DirecTV at home, but we are going fulltime and don't know which one is the best for the road. The man in town installs either one. He told us that with DirecTV you have to run 2 wires from the satellite if you are going to have tv in living and bedroom. Dish only has 1 wire. We want to be able to get CBS, NBC, Fox and sport channels all over the US. We also have a HD TV. Please help
I'm too lazy to look all that up, I've had both, but changed from Dish to Direct some years back because camping in the mountains, I always had a bit of a problem with Dish because the azimuth is lower then Direct tv...with direct, you are looking higher in the sky for the satellite, thus, it's easier to "shoot" over the mountains and some trees with Direct then it is with Dish..Just my opinion and the reason I switced from Dish to Direct. Since then, I've had little to no trouble picking up a signal to watch TV with.

we've been using Direct for several years and have been well pleased ... all that is required to get your local channels (where ever you are) is to call them and tell them to set your local channels to your location ... no issues to date and we've been ocean to ocean and border to border
We've had DISH for the 12 years we've been full timing. Overall have been very satisfied. Have heard both positive and negative about both so you have a hard decision ahead of you. One thing about it, with all the incentives out there, if you don't like one, just cancel after your contract is up and try the other. Good Luck, Diana

DIRECT TV, hands down.
What ever system you have you will need a seperate cable feed.
If you want a HD DVD reciever it will require 2 cables.
If you want to easly get east and west coast feed, again direct is the way to go.
Easy to get your RV waiver, just need a copy of your trailer registration and fill out the form and mail or fax it in.
Good luck

As for your one wire scenario, DIRECTV does have a solution to that now as well. It isn't cheap, but it can support up to 8 tuners on a single wire. It is called a SWM(Single Wire Multiswitch). To get one you will have to go to an online retailer like solidsignal.com and pay somewhere in the vicinity of $300. The SWM can be mounted at the dish then a single cable goes inside to the power supply. From there high frequency splitters do the trick.
BTW, I carry around 2 HDDVRs and another HD receiver with only one wire coming into my trailer for DIRECTV.
