interesting thread..
I got some friends who would tow with that combo...
I would not ride with them though..
When you get in a hairy situation you will understand what everyone is talking about..
Its not that people hate the jeep.
BTW—— can you really get double your MPG with that new technology posted in those banner ads?

The other thing to double check is that the tires are properly inflated. This can have an adverse effect if they are low. Lots of bounce and can cause side to side sway.
Good luck.

When I first read this thread I was not sure what type vehicle the Liberty was as the nearest Jeep dealer is 50 miles away and the Jeep brand never caught on around here. A Jeep is a bit of a novelty in this area, fun little machines, but can not tow a livestock trailer or heavy farm wagon. There are few around the area.
I saw a Liberty in a nearby town this afternoon. I can not think of any trailer it would tow well with that short wheelbase.

Like I had said earlier, there is more to towing an RV than the horsepower to pull the load. Having worked up from a S-15 Jimmy and an Explorer, I would NEVER try to use a vehicle as small as a Liberty to tow more than a pop up. And I will NEVER suggest anyone use such a vehicle to tow a travel trailer.
There are loads and dynamic factors that come into play with a large TT hooked to a small vehicle which are not considered by the "truck" manufacturer. After 38 years as a mechanical engineer, I have learned to listen to others and look at the situation before I blast off.

A 1 ton Dually can be just as dangerous towing a PuP! it`s not all about the TV. there are many other factors involved, such as the skills of the driver, the condition of the TV and so on!
What would be safer on the road? a newbie in a 1 ton dually towing a 35 ft. 5`er? or an experienced RV`er towing for years in a Liberty towing a 20???ft TT within Manuf. ratings?

Is the 1 ton dually towing a 35 ft. fiver maxed out. LOL the driver towing the 1 ton will get better... that liberty will not.
OP..
But it was a nightmare on my first trip. I never want to tow it again. Any information would help.
If you are going to continue with the TV get the problem fixed.

My last tow vehicle was an '02 3.7L Jeep Liberty LTD, which at the time was rated to tow 5000lbs. I towed a cruiser RV Fun Finder X160 with no problems, but it was only 17' long and weighed under 3000 lbs full.
That said, It seems that even with an optimal set up, your Liberty is pushing the envelope trying to tow your new TT.

My guess would be a wheel base problem

As with the 1 ton vs Liberty safety issue, wheelbase is NOT a pat answer for safe towing either.
I never had ANY stability issues when towing with my Liberty. It always tracked straight and handles VERY well. The ONLY reason I traded it for my Dakota was lack of horsepower.
This idea that the only thing long enough to tow "safely" is a full sized quad cab, long bed that is the length of a small bus is rediculous.
Heck, the wheelbase of my Dakota a THREE FEET longer than my Liberty, yet there are a whole bunch of people out there that will STILL insist it is "too short a wheelbase" to tow safely.
