Would you like to see the speed limit reduced to 55 for the summer to help reduce fuel cost?

I did not present it correctly, post in the 55MPH yes if you would agree to go back to 55 for the summer.

Post in the 55 MPH No if you would not.

Well you can go 55 just stay in the right lane. I would prefer the option depending on were I need to be and when.

Jerry, why is this topic on the forum twice!!?? Hey, where am I coming from? It is not my place to do what I just did. Sorry. Heck no to government saying we go 55 to reduce fuel price/save fuel. They did that in 74 and all it did was make criminals out of all of us. 55 was forced on us for a phony reason. We could make a difference if we all quit using fuel for about a week but that will never happen 'cause we cannot even agree on how 50 amps works.....Karl

Absolutely not! Keep the speed limits as they are and give the driver the choice of whether to maintain a lower speed.

I like 55. When I was down in Arizona and New Mexico, I felt real uncomfortable going 65 or more with the big old trucks passing me right and left! Speed limits should be based on safety rather than fuel economy, anyhow.

Unfortunately this isn't 1979 and the US is not the only major consumer of oil in the world. Reducing the US consumption will not do much for world wide oil pricing. In a few years China will require more oil then the USA. China needs oil and they have the US dollars to buy it. And India is importing huge amounts of oil and have started to manufacturer their own quality vehicles. An Indian car company recently bought Jaguar.

A national 55 mph speed limit would help if the USA was having an oil shortage, as we had twice in the 70's, but there is no oil shortage now.

Driving 55 mph rather than 60 will certainly reduce your fuel costs.

As Bob Dylan's old song goes, "The Times They Are A-Changin'".

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Bob Dylan 1964

Yes!
If you try to drive 55 now you might get run over. If they lower the speed limit to 55 you may stand a better chance.

AGREED, I plan to slow down, but that MY choice, it shouldn't be FORCED on everyone for phonie reasons. Driving 55, will have absolutely NO affect on oil prices whatsoever, UNLESS the oil companies want it that way.If you think you can hurt them by driving slower, or boycotting perticular companies, check this out, from another forum,
A long read, but well worth it.
