I got the impression that the V8 Cummins would be for the 1500 Ram/Titan. My crystal ball tells me the 6.7L Cummins will still be in the HD Rams.

Actually, the contract between Chrysler and Cummins says they do.

When I first read this post and the OP's comments I had to check the date on my computer to see if it was April fools day all over again.
Why would Dodge get into bed with Nissan on a Diesel powered half ton while Nissan is building and marketing a potential HD Ram competitor of their very own. It seems on the surface like Dodge is just helping Nissan to build products to compete against themselves in both the half-ton and HD markets. They will have a hard time differentiating their products and buyers from Nissan's.

Interesting to me: "The current Nissan Titan is only available with a 5.6-liter V8 but the next Titan will offer a wide range of Chrysler-sourced engine choices, including a 3.7-L V6, a 4.7-L V8 and *likely* the 5.7-L 'HEMI' V8, instead of Nissan's next-generation 5.6-L 'Endurance' V8. The HEMI's simpler overhead valve (aka pushrod) construction and lower cost materials are expected to save several hundred dollars versus the dual overhead cam 5.6-L V8. Cutting costs is critical in the increasingly price sensitive full size truck market. Using the HEMI would also set the Titan up to share the Ram's two-mode hybrid powertrain – fuel economy being another highly important purchase consideration."
I LOVE the Nissan 5.6 V8 engine...what a shame to see it go. But then again the new Hemi isn't supposed to be a slouch either.....and the idea of two-mode hybrid is pretty cool.

You answered your own question. They WON'T be competitors anymore.

I see it as the beginning of either a merger or an outright purchase of the Chrysler company by Renault/Nissan. Considering that the current owners of Chrysler are not known for being a car manufacturer, it seems very possible to me. A rebadged Ram, who would buy it? Probably not a person who purchases Nissans.

I believe it is a cooperation between the two. Dodge will design Nissan's new truck and Nissan will design a car for dodge.

The new V8 is for half ton vehicles. The 6.7 will continue on in the 2500+ trucks.
I would expect to see Dodge building Nissan's HD pickup too? If Nissan does not have enough volume to justify a plant building just 1/2 ton Titans, they sure won't with HD pickup volumes.

Thats just it. Dodge isn't designing anyting for Nissan. They are supplying Ram drivetrains and underpinnings and Nissan is supplying most of the sheetmetal and interior stuff with a few gee whiz doodads Dodge won't offer and vise versa. Sharing would be a codesign. It is a reskinned Ram per everythig I have seen in print, right down to the Hemi being in it.

Dodge may be taking on the Nissan business because they don't have enough business of their own to keep their factory full and busy.
And typically has a alot more moving parts. There is already one other american engine builder, although it has a tarnished record as of late, and there are import engine builders with V8's why would Cummins start building a V8 when they have proved the I6 to be better? Cummins has built V8s for years.
