My air conditioner has been draining/dripping onto my bunkend due to condensation and I always have to open the pup up after getting home to dry it out. So today, I decided I would drill a hole in the air conditioner pan to attach a hose to drain it away from the bunkend. Well, the drill bit went too far and drilled right through the condensor and the compressed air (with freon?)come pouring out until it emptied. I will now be taking the camper to the repair shop. I hope this stupidity does not cost me too much. I can't camp in Georgia without air conditioning for the next six months. Duh.

Reminds me of a friend of mine. Has had just bought a new freezer which he set up on his back porch. He went to install a hasp and lock on it to keep the neighbor's kids from helping themselves to the ice cream. Well you probably guessed it, he drilled right through the freezer tubing.

What a bummer. Sounds like something I would do. You need to check out the Georgia RVers Rally sometime. You will find us under the rally forum. This month we are going to Georgia Veterans State Park, but the rallies are held quarterly all over the state.

I got news for you - that will NOT be a cheap repair. Chances are you will be ahead buying a new unit vs. the labor involved in fixing the old one!
Bet you don't do that again!!

Keith is correct. RV AC units are basically lifetime sealed units. There are no access ports for charging and since you holed the condenser, even the parts much less recharging, (which needs a total evacuation to remove any moisture that has entered while it was broken) will be about 50% more than a new unit would cost.

When looking for a new unit go for a Carrier unit. They come equipped with a slinger wheel which throws the condensate back at the condenser which evaporates it under all but the very worst conditions. Not to mention the air handling inside is superior to other brands.

Actually that is $483 shipped. If OP can install it himself this may be the way to go!

Sorry for the hijack, but...Is that something that can be adapted to Coleman Mach? Has anyone tried a mod like this?
