We are getting a new RV - set to be delivered in two weeks. We have a five-month-old son. I'm trying to figure out where he will sleep in the RV. In bed with us isn't an option because he's too small and we also have three dogs that jump up in bed if it thunders, and could step on him. So that's out.

Where else? He weighs 17 lbs, so too much for the pack and play bassinet feature. We could take off the bassinet feature and use the pack and play as a playpen and let him sleep in that. Not sure if that's the best option tho. Thought I'd ask you guys who have been there/done that. Our pack and play is the travel lite size, so it will fit in our fiver at the side or foot of the bed (we have a slideout in the bedroom.)

Thanks!

We've had grandkids with us a lot over the past years, up to four at a time. They are now 1,2,3,4,5 and 10 (two different families). We've put little ones on the floor, in a large pack&play, on different sleeper sofas, etc., never in bed with us (except when they all pounce on us in the morning). They spend so much time with us in the summer, that they know the routine. It can get rather crowded, but we always manage, and the kids always want to have another "sleepover", even if it is for 3-4 days. Our oldest (now 10) started with us when 3 and spent the whole summer on the road (dad & mom were having problems). She looks forward to summers, much of which is spent with us. We're all making wonderful memories!

The pack n play (without the bassinet part) if you have the room. If you have the money and desire there are some really cool portable beds at one step ahead (link all the words together and add .com for the website). Might find a better solution there.

We use the Pack and Play minus the upper bassinet part. One trick we found with our kids is to get two firm pillows and lay them on top of the pack n play's pad. Then take a crib sheet and wrap it around the pillows and the pad. Makes it pretty close to the softness of their crib!!!!

One more suggestion. If you want to save floor space, make your dinette into the bed, then place the pack and play on the surface. Helps if space is limited.

We have a 3 YO and a 5 YO who are too wiggly to be in bed with us, too. This might not be applicable to your sweet baby at that age, but for future reference this is what we do...We have a jack knife sofa and a dinnette that we use for their beds. I was worried about them rolling off and onto the floor while we were driving at night. I bought body pillows (just really long pillows...sometimes used by pregnant women) and attached velcro to the ends (the iron on kind). I then bought a long piece of elastic and also attached the other side of the velcro to the ends of the elastic. When they are ready to sleep, the pillow lays down the side of the "bed" and attaches under the cushions via the removable velcro elastic strap. Very handy and then we also have 2 extra pillows for laying around. The pillows weighed less than a portable bed railing.

Enjoy the good times,
Carmen

Our youngest grandD slept in the shower until she was able to climb out of it. She then went to one of those folding contraptions that are very capable of getting my goat.

Coming from a NICU/ pediatric RN, PLease do not put pillows in the pack and play!!! That is very dangerous. It is too soft of a sleeping surface for a 5 month old and could cause SIDS. That baby really needs to be in the pack and play with the original firm mattress. NOT in bed with other children or adults and not on a sofa or bed. Those sleeping arrangements can cause entrapment and/or suffocation!!! I have seen so many sad situations! Please keep your babies safe at home and while camping by following the "safe sleep guidelines" Thank you

We use a portable playpen. That way you can set it up outside with shade and a bug cover for good day time naps with fresh air or inside for the night.
