What does everybody think of split bathrooms, meaning shower and sink in 1 room and the pot in another room, we have 1 that has them all in 1 room and we like it very very much but it is getting harder to find them, and 2, why do all of the company's put the hot water tank closer to either the bathroom or the kitchen, it takes for ever to get the hot water to one or the other wasting all of your water!!!, if anybody has a cure can you please let me know. Thanks TW
No cure but an example of engineers that either have never camped or management says design so we can make it as cheap as possible; so we can sell units!

We had a 28' Keystone that had a split bath our feet almost hung in the sink on one side of the bed. Moved up to a 36' Cameo with seperate bathroom. Love it. I know what you mean about the hotwater most of my water lines are in the storage bay. I've thought about insulating the waterlines to see if would help.
My Colorado 5'er has a "bathroom built for three". (1) Pot and one vanity in a separate room on right side; (2) Second vanity in master bedroom area next to the "pot room" on right side; and, (3) Shower on left wall across from "pot room". This makes it capable of handling three users at once.
I like the setup, 'cuz I can be either in the pot and shave there while DW is putting on makeup, and, with the accordian wall separating the shower area from the rest of the bedroom and the pocket door blocking off the living room, one of the kids can be in the shower at the same time.
It doesn't always work out that way, but it sure is nice to know that so many can get simultaneous use from the configuration.

That was ONE of the main reasons we chose a TT over 5th wheel. Really do like the complete bathroom enclosure. We didn't like the two room bathroom and REALLY didn't like the sink in the bed room plan.

We don't have a fifth wheel but I like the idea of the bathroom all together. Some TT's are now coming with the same split design in bathrooms that you describe. As for wasting water due to the water heater being located further away - catch the water in a clean bucket while it's warming up and you can either use that later by adding to your dish pan or put it back in your fresh water tank with a funnel. All these little tricks help when you are boondocking.

We like our all-in-one rear bathroom. We do have a small unit but it is nice for us. The hot water heater is next to the bathroom sink and bath so don't lose much water there. There is also plenty of legroom when using the toilet.
From what I have seen of layouts, the location of appliances is done by committee, ie, try to please everyone. Folks seem to like good storage rather than utilities locations, so things like a furnace, water heater, or water pump get stuffed in a weird place. In larger units they seem to be laid out better, but, not perfect. In some 'lines' it almost looks like they use a single appliance layout and shift everything else around it. Probably less expensive to make, but, is a pain for some living conveniences.
There is a little bit of everything out there for floor plans. One person will swear by one type while another wouldn't have it. I dislike rear kitchens while others would not buy a unit without them. My wife insists on a bathtub while others refuse to have them. Some want a separate toilet 'room', etc, etc, etc.

We camp with our kids and grandkids often enough to want an enclosed, private bathroom. Our first small 5th wheel had the separate enclosed bathroom, that worked well! The next, larger 5th wheel had the shower/toilet in one room, and the sink and medicine cabinet were across from this area, in a walk through hall to the bedroom. This worked well also.
Our favorite however is our new Cardinal, with a completely enclosed bath. A few years ago (2002) when we first looked for a larger 5er, we were frustrated because at the time no one was making separate baths! They were all part of the bedroom, and dealers told us that this is what the consumer wanted! Well, I think the consumer has let the industry know that there is more than one preference out there, and they are making more enclosed bath units. As a personal preference, we did NOT want a bathroom that was part of the bedroom, overnight guests or not!
We raised 4 kids in a house with one bathroom, I figure for the time we are rv-ing, we manage with the same. Of course there are always the campground facilities for emergencies!

We love our bathroom all in one. This is our second unit with the same design and it works great. The room is large enough to let you move around and the shower if very large. another thing my wife likes is there is an extra sink in the bedroom area. That is her sink, and mine is in the bathroom. I have seen those that were so small you could not turn around. That would not be fun, but this unit is plenty large.
Our son is in the Navy flying jets. He will join us at times. I don't think he would shower in the trailer if he had to go up in our bed room to do it. He is very modest, and loves the enclosed bath.
I'm not sure why he is still modest after two carrier cruises. I came back from Portugal to Virginia on the Carl Vinson with him, and there is not much privacy. I was fortunate in that I got to stay in an officers room, with another pilot. I went into then enlisted mens room, and boy no privacy. Enough said. We just like the privacy.
