Thank you so much to everyone who responded about my fresh water tank filling dilemma. I appreciate the creative ideas...I wish I could make a quick trip back to the dealer to see if this was a manufacturer defect. Unfortunately, we live in Omaha, NE and we bought the RV from a dealership in Chicago. No wonder they were so nice to us Thanks for helping us with the water hose (and for helping us avoid a trip back to Chicago). A trip to Camping World will soon follow!
With many thanks,

Hi Dr. Dana,
The the hose on mine from the fresh water gravity fill hole, runs "uphill" to the fresh water tank as well.
I thought this was a manufactures defect when I first tried to fill by 2006 B T Cruiser fresh water tank and water came back out at me.
I asked the service guys at the dealership about it and they suggested the same thing as others have suggest to you, "cut off a piece of hose and slip it in the gravity fill opening so that it would get the water up and over into the tank."
I agree with Cliford from Whidbey Island , Washington in some respects. I am concerned that the insertion may cause the tank plumbing to tear or come apart. Maybe just be careful.
I have also slowed the water pressure down as suggested and that helps also.
Thanks to you, Sharon.Lee for sharing your experience with your BT Cruiser. I thought it was just my luck to pick out the one RV on the dealer's lot that ran UPHILL! Ha. I picked up my water fill piece from Camping World yesterday and my extra length of tubing from the local hardware store. With great caution as recommended, I'm going to give it another try to fill the tank this weekend. Thank you again for the message. I appreciate everyone who has contributed to our post. This is our first RV and I never imagined that we would have such a great support system on this site. Seems like we have friends whom we have yet to meet.
Your vent tube is probably kinked not letting displaced air escape. It's an easy fix if you can gain access to your tank. You might be able to remove some of the underbelly and locate the vent tube.
Where would I find my vent tube? Is it somewhere near the fresh water tank? Thanks for the tip...I know my inlet hose runs UPHILL, as I can see it. I'll also look for a tube that may be kinked.
Usually the vent is a small dime sized screened vent above the fill pipe.

We don't like the gravity fill as it's on the living side of the trailer where our table and chairs live. We've installed a couple of tee fittings and a ball valve between the city water connection and the input side of the water pump. Open cabinet under the sink, open the valve, and water fills the tank. We open the gravity fill cap to allow the air pressure to fully escape better than the vent tube. Only downside is if I don't monitor the tank level and I overfill the tank and water pours out of the gravity fill and all over everything anyway.
