We are planning a trip down part of the Oregon coast this summer and I am looking at options from the 101 to the 5. As much as we would love to go down the 101 well into California, our vacation will just not have enough days. So my options are:
1. Florence to Eugene on the 126
2. Reedsport to the 5 on the 38
3. Coos Bay to the 5 on the 42
If anyone has any recommendations on which road or roads are more RV friendly than the others, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't do 38, the others 126 & 42 are better roads IMO.

have been to Coos Bay from 5, as I recall it was a good road, but that was 25 yrs ago.

It isn't called "the 5" nor "the 101" in Oregon. Call them 101 or I-5 and the natives will be less hostile. Oh, don't call it or-e-GON.
126 is good, interesting, scenic. I haven't been on the others.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

Florence to Eugene on 126 is a good road
Reedsport to I 5 on 38 is no problem for use towing a 34 ft TT once a year for the last 15 years

Have used Hwy 38 twice a year for the past 5 years. Good road. Lots of passing lanes.

We have used 42 for many years now from 5 toward Bandon. We usully take 42 south out of Coquille as 42 continues to Coos. It is a great highway and I would recommend it for any type of RV travel.

All 3 are great roads. It all depends on how much time you have and if there is something you want to see below Florence.
Are you starting up north and coming down the coast line?

We did Hwy 38 last fall from Reedsport to I-5 pulling our 5er. Very good road and it follows the Umpqua River most of the way which was very scenic. Make the turn at Drain to get on I-5 and don't forget to look for the elk just out of Reedsport.
Enjoy

Hi,
A few years ago I went up to the Rainforest in Washington followed by going through the redwoods on the way back to Garden Grove around July 4th. Highway 199 is a good one going from Grants Pass to Crescent City, and I have taken it many times. My sister used to live in Cave Junction and I used to live in Grants Pass many years ago.
To bad that you will not have time to see the Redwoods, it is really nice, but I know how difficult it is to cut down the number of days out camping!
I know that when I drove up to Cave Junction via I5, it was one day and 850 miles. But returning on 101 took a full day just to reach San Francisco! Taking I5 is much more time efficient.
Have a great trip and enjoy the new motorhome!
