Hi all,

My recently purchased 1991 Winnebago Chiefton "A" only has seatbelts for the driver and front passenger.

I have 3 young children (2/5/7) and want to fit additional seatbelts. Any advice on purchasing/installing seatbelts? Any locals to Seattle know anywhere that would do such an installation?

Thanks all

no not know of any places that might do it for you, but you can get seat belts from most auto part stores.

just bolt them through the floor and to the frame

batts we had to hunt for ours because when we went to look at ours the PO said we only had three belts. We found four more, 2 under the sofa and 2 under the forward facing kitchen table bench seat.

It left the factory with more than two I bet so the holes should be there for you. It can be a pain reaching the bottom side but other than that it is a straight forward task to add new ones.

Problem with getting someone to install them is the liability that goes with an unauthorized/unapproved installation. It's not just adding them, it's adding them properly.

If your rig really is shy of additional belts, check out gotbelts.com. I have ordered from them before and was satisfied with their products and service.

Seatbelts for RV applications, such as on sofa's or the dinette, normally have to be quite a bit longer than standard automotive applications, so make sure you get belts with sufficient length.

Proper mounting and fastening is important as well.

Unfortunately, due to liability issues, it can be very difficult to find a place that will install them for you. They are out there, but they seem to be few and far between.

Good Luck,

Yeah, batts, check under the sofa (extend the sleeper if necessary) and under the dinette seat...most people who don't take extra people will shove them down to get the "pretty" look on their sofa...and also with the dinette bench...as sitting on the buckles during camping time can be quite uncomfortable. You should have buckles for at least 3 on the sofa, possibly 2 at the dinette.

That does seem strange to me. Winnebago is one of the few manufacturers that install more than the 2 cockpit belts. I would suggest that you have a real good look and look on the Winnebago site. They have a super site for information. A friend of mine was looking for the part numbers for the door latch assembly for an '87 Chieftain and found all the information he needed on their site. He didn't but from them as the price was ridiculous but found an after market supplier that had the goods. By the way his coach has belts on the bucket seats on either side of the door and four belts on the dinette. I helped him remove the belts for the bucket seats, took out the seats also. The belts were bolted through the frame.

The funny part was the kids found ours when we went to see the MH and the owner was shaking his head after saying there were only three when the kids pulled out four more.

I think his late wife did the cleaning, etc and it just being to two of them they had no need of them but they had owned and used it for 10 years.

Thanks guys,

I thought that I'd had a good look under the dinette and sofa but now Im starting to doubt myself. There were definately no seatbelts there, but maybe there were mounts under the carpet.

I'll check tomorrow and report back.

Thanks guys

If you have a covert-a-bed in there look under it, You may have a pair of seat belts down on the floor under the bed part, You will have to partially open the bed to find them. Only two belts though
