--Got to dewinterize my Bounder and flushed the water lines--since was only a little water figured would dump it on my flower bed but the valve was not working so figured maybe if I loosen it up and see what gives--well it gave right into my lap--Thank God it was just the gray tank--but the valve was broke and would not open---Now the big question what if it was the black tank and it was say almost full???What can you do in that situation--a little gray water is not bad in the driveway but alot of black water would not be fun---what has anyone done when your black water tank valve goes south???--is there a way to drain the black water that I dont know about or what can you do?

Once the valve goes, there's probably not much you can do except "let it fly!" and clean up the mess from the ground as fast as you can. I didn't realize this until last week, but the campground we visit most has a contract with a local business for blowing out stuck sewer lines (in the ground) and black tank spills. Turns out, because its a campground, the guy who does this has to be certified by the EPA because the contents inside our "black tanks" is considered hazardous materials. Now, if it's YOUR "black tank contents" YOU can do anything you want. But the EPA considers it hazardous. So there's special chemicals that this guy has to put on the ground on black tank spills. So, if you spill your own on the ground, and it's your property, as long as your neighbors don't notice, you can probably clean it any way you want. But for the rest of the world, it's considered "hazardous material!" Well ... agree or disagree with the EPA and their idea of "hazardous material", thats ok. I'm just passing along what I found out last week.

My Drainmaster electric valves quit working shortly after we bought our new Phoenix Cruiser last fall. I had to use the screwdriver slot override... But the black water valve got so tight the screw slot would just bet more buggered up and not open.
So..I ordered two manual valves for about 13 bucks apiece and took and hour to install them Friday evening. The black tank had about 15 gallons of fermenting sewage (I underestimated the volume...I thought the tank was near empty).
When I pulled the electric valve... well, you can imagine. I spent a half hour with a hose and a broom.... flushing down the curb to the storm drain. I know that's not recommended, but what was the alternative??
After that... I took a long shower and then installed the manual valves.
I had problems from the get go with the electric valves sticking open or shut... I never want electric valves again.

Don't know, I've never had it happen in 51 years of RV'ing, that's before rigs were self contained.

Try to do a search. I remember some threads where there is a fix for in place repair of a valve with the tank full. While not a real fix, I use a Flush King attatchment that gives me one more safety valve if the main one fails.
